I wonder why (or, perhaps, how) an airline would send out an email with prices that are obviously higher than the going rate to a relatively informed audience. Would have thought it would do more harm than good in the long-term.

They obviously think that Australians are a soft touch (which a lot seem to be).

$2292 return in July at this short notice is not that bad, imo...

that's what i thought too...i'm glad you said it with your post count rather than me with mine :p
It's a pity in one way that the JSA with BA ended. Last year I got under $1600 return for my brother (and could have got it for less with different flight options) in July. Just by booking BA flight numbers. QF metal all the way.

It's always worth checking out how much the flight to London would be departing Singapore, since it is often possible to get a cheap flight out to Singapore on Qantas. There are often much better discounts and better specials out of SIN (because yes, in general, Aussies are happy to pay higher prices for everything). For example it was only a couple of weeks ago there were SGD1300 fares SIN - LON return and in fact, Singapore Airlines (the most overpriced airline in my opinion) had the same special on at that time.

Very true. I almost booked a SIN-xKUL-IST//LHR-xKUL-PER for about $1100 for July a few months back but decided not to go...always pays to look around :)
