This looks like an interesting product: KnowRoaming | Reduce Roaming Fees

It's essentially a sticker which sticks onto your SIM card's contacts and does nothing when you're at home. When you're overseas, it comes to life and is controlled by an Android or iOS app. You can select which network (and hence which call/SMS/data rates I guess) you use overseas, without switching SIMs. Incoming calls to your Australian number come through as normal.

Sounds like a really clever idea!

There's a few of these around, but i've never found a good one. It's effectively a SIM card in a different format to what we're used to (stick on as it says).

The problem I found with the prototypes i've seen/used, is they don't work. I tried one around 6-12 months ago, and it failed within a few days. They're incredibly flimsy.

Also, with the large proliferation of dual SIM Android handsets, it's easy to get a good handset and simply pop your home SIM in, and a global roaming SIM or local foreign SIM. Nokia and Samsung are well in on the act now (and I know we release multiple dual SIM Android handsets for sale).

Must admit I find my dual sim Galaxy fantastic, one of my better phone purchases.

They've come a long long way from those dodgy old non-smart Dual SIM yum-cha brand phones of a few years ago. I know many people who use them as their every day phone even back home.

markis10, to which Galaxy phone are you referring? Did you buy it in Australia?
I have looked at the Galaxy Note 3, but can't justify the price when I have a perfectly good HTC phone. But I have read that the Note 3 version for China has a dual sim. As I will be in China is a few weeks, I wonder if I should look at a dual sim phone while I'm there.

If you want a cheap dual-SIM Android - cracked with customROM
look at etotalk

Currently using a Lenovo A820 - great phone at a really good price.
