This apart hotel was discussed in the 'have you made any travel mistakes lately' thread and a post by Milboo. Here is what we found on our recent stay.
After, much deliberation and taking into consideration Milboo's post, we decided to brave the Adagio Access Paris Bastille. We spent 28 Dec till 1st Jan there. Our first impression wasn't great as it still had the Le 300 signage outside and only Adagio Access signs in the windows at the front. The lady who checked us in looked a bit dishevelled but was friendly enough. I had booked a best available rate and the full charge was done on check in - they still only accept Visa/MC despite what it says on the Adagio website.
Our room on the 4th floor was 'compact' but clean albeit the bathroom could do with a regrout/refurb. Still had blankets which we don't find particularly hygienic and the sheets were ok but thin, as were the towels, and the bed was firm. However, we loved that we had a table with chairs plus a desk and windows that opened. As tea drinkers, my partner was not impressed that there was no kettle only the drip filter coffee machine, we did ask at reception but they couldn't provide a kettle so we just used a saucepan to boil water. The electric blue/lime green/burnt orange colour combination in the room was a bit out there but tolerable. WiFi access was free - we had to log into web mail to access our emails and we couldn't send emails with photos - no big drama for us as we don't use social media etc. If you wanted full internet access, there was a charge.
On first view my partner hated it. I offered to move us the next day if she still hated it the next morning. The blanket/sheet combo was annoying, but despite this we slept so well and the building and street was so quiet that my partner agreed to stick it out. I asked for another sheet and blanket and manufactured two 'doonas' which served us very well for the rest of the stay - we left them in situ on checkout hoping they might get the idea to provide doonas.
It seemed that they had only one iron and board which had to be collected from the reception, and valuables were kept in the hotel safe - no in room safe.
The other staff we came across were immaculately dressed and pleasant - they even had a printed sheet prepared for NYE advising of until what time each Metro line was running.
It was a short walk (5mins) from the Gare De Lyon - we caught the Le Cars Air France bus from CDG - and the property is right near the Promenade du Plantee from which the New York Highline was inspired. The Bastille was a 10 min walk max and there was a great Carrefour supermarket just around the corner and a Boulangerie at the end of the street.
We felt completely safe in the area and in the street even though it would be described as dimly lit. The door to the building was accessed by a code and the reception was manned 24 hours. We self catered breakfast but didn't use the two burner cooktop other than to boil water. Interestingly the cooktop operated on a timer - a fire prevention strategy I guess.
I would stay at the property again simply for the location and the quietness of the area. We paid AUD $165 per night ($140 if I had chosen to prepay) which I thought was excellent value for a short stay. I have provided feedback to both Accor and the property and would hope that some simple changes like providing doonas will be made.
