Just a question regarding the Mac bank Hiltons Hhonors credit card

I have had the card since July last yr and obtained Hilton Hhonors Diamond status in Dec Last yr
after spending $40000 on the card

I would like to maintain that status - does that mean I have to spend another $40000 on the card before DEC this year ?

Not quite sure how this works

Does the Diamond status last longer than a year ?

Any advice would be appreciated

I have also posted this question in the credit card section

Cheers

My Diamond status lasted almost 2 years when I first got it.
Card received November, Diamond by February, status that year plus the following year.
According to Mac Bank however, you have to spend $40k/year.

Doesn't really answer your question but I passed 40K last month and my status expiry is listed as March 31, 2018.

Thanks for that

My preference is not to spend on this card if I don't have to - I wonder if I can get 2 yrs out of it before I have spend another 40 K - I might ring HHonors and see how long diamond status lasts

Cheers

Diamond status lasts for the year it is obtained, the following year, and then to end March. So obtain this calendar year you will have it until March 2018. Next calendar year will be March 2019, regardless of which month it is obtained.
So your best bet is to spend 40k in Jan

Thanks earlyriser

I know Mac bank specifically says that you need to spend 40 K per year to maintain status - but not sure if this is true is my diamond status last more than a year

Hi Cynicor

So I obtained my diamond status - DEC 15 - I have it all this year and it will expire March 2017
Unfortunately - my spend is not that great - about 10 K per month - so start spending on the card about 5mths before March 2017 ?

What I can't say is when MacBank calculate the 40k for the benefit. Is it annual year, calendar year or something else. I'd start in Jan and wear the lost months unless you have some stays coming up.

Surely its $40 K spend during your the year you have the card - so if you obtained your card in July 2015 - you have to spend $40 K before July 2016

If thats true - I assume to maintain it - I would need to spend another $40 K by July 2017 - but if the status runs out in March 2017 - need to spend $40 k b/w July 2016 and March 2017 to maintain continuous diamond status

Yep, but I'm sure there are many here that would appreciate hearing what happens! ;)

If I were to guess, I'd guess at Mac requiring the spend within 12 month of card ownership, then that should give you diamond at that point (I have no idea how quickly that recognition occurs, but let's say you saw diamond appear in your HH account in July 2015). Hilton will likely give you diamond for the balance of 2015, all of 2016 and then until 31 March 2017.

I'd also guess that Mac will not hit the diamond requal button if you fail to hit $40k before you July 2016, but that shouldn't matter as Hilton probably gave you diamond until 31-3-2017, however if you want continuous diamond, then you'd need to make the Mac $40k spend before 31-3-2017.

At least that's my best guess at how it works and it may or may not be accurate!

Previously I hit 40K spend to get Diamond by paying the ATO....I realise you don't now earn points for ATO spend, but does the ATO spend still qualify for Diamond status?

I'd say yes. Isn't it any spending on the card that tallies up to the combined $40K? (excluding the likes of cash advances etc)

Has anyone got diamond without spending the required $40K?

Also is it all computerized for the upgrades i.e. it's all automated once a customer hits $40k, computer says yes and upgrades the cstomer to diamond? Or is it a manual process?

Yes, a friend of mine is in her second year of Diamond and spends very little on this card. A glitch?

Just on Q's for HH credit card and I realise it is speculative in nature, I notice the annual fee is $295 pa, however earlier in the year it was free for the first year (I might have read free for life somewhere, I'm not sure). How often does this card throw a discounted (or waiver) first year annual fee or it highly unlikely it will change from present values.

Just noticed that Mac Bank do not offer the Hilton card any more and I called them to confirm and it is not even available to existing (other) card holders with Mac. I think i wont be letting mine go as an easy way to Plat. each year and I have also confirmed that the "year" for the 40K spend is from your "anniversary" date (date card opened)
