Lucky I got an SMS in time to buy another ticket with QF.
Same company, bull, ...
There is only 1 more flight now, and I have to work tomorrow ASAP, so NO overnight in MEL that I can do.
Not flying JQ again.
JQ is just too troublesome.
And an unplanned overnight in MEL when I have a very early start, with a probable rush to work, no prep time, first JQ lands at 8.20am, have to start work at 8.30am far from ADL airport...
Sorry JQ, you have lost me as a client.:(:(:(

That's frustrating to say the least.

A similar thing happened to me once. I was booked on an early morning BNE-SYD flight. They cancelled it two days out and could only fly me that afternoon or the previous day. They refused to put me on a QF flight, even though i needed to fly that morning.

I have still flown JQ a couple of times since then, but I will never again rely on them to be somewhere at a particular time.

I know, I know, shut up John.

JQ is simply not good enough and cannot be relied on. Suits some people. Don't need the stress when things go wrong.

Also after 8 years commuting have learnt not to book last flight of the night on any airline.

When JQ have cancelled my flights they've always rebooked me on QF if required. Not sure why you've been unlucky, but that is horrible and I'm glad you managed to get home on time!

I wouldn't rely on JQ to do that as the norm, it appears luck may be on your side more than anything!

manneJ, being the Perth-based AFF expert that you are, do you know what is happening to passengers booked on the 0640 and 1600 hours MEL to PER JQ flights and their respective eastbound returns?

I have asked on the JQ delays/ cancellations thread but no one has answered. These two return flights rarely operate but they continue to show on Melbourne Airport - Flight Information, Shopping & Parking and elsewhere as 'cancellations' suggesting that bookings were taken but the flights were cancelled within a week of the originally arranged date of operation.

As I mentioned on the JQ delay post, I didn't want to faff to T4 and back again.
If they were still in T1, maybe, but to go off to T4, and back, nope.
One more JQ booking, but will keep an eye on VA and QF prices, and do that.
$210 buy now fly now, still V class at whY earn rate.
Maybe the $379 next quote would have been subclass of flexY.
Tried to do OLCI with that JQ flight earlier on, I think they knew 24 hours prior, because that was when I tried, but message said to go to counter to check in!
Hint, oh, no, but only 5% of my mind thought that at that time.
Last flight of the day made it worst though, now I realise why there is a "Don't fly Jetstar website".
Edit: Melburnian1, I wouldn't chance it.

Eh? Last flight is often the cheapest and then fly ahead! (admittedly, not on JQ) ;)

I agree with the sentiments here......JQ is far from a reliable airline (In my limited experience, I've had dramas of some description with possibly 80-90% of the flights).....however they're a means to an end. The only airline that flies OOL-CNS direct and will give me QF gold (maybe WP). I miss the priority everything with VA but I don't miss the lounge and I'm really enjoying flying into and out of OOL rather than BNE with that coughpy drive.

Just had a chance to read up about the JQ Voucher system and what it means, I have to make another booking, giving JQ more of my money, and that voucher has to be used within 3 months for a booking.
Money back would have entailed me giving her (the JQ call centre girl) my visa debit/mastercard debit card number and all that.
Bah, never mind, Aud$99 and $210 equalling $309, not worth it to make a fuss.
Still keeping an eye out on VA and QF fares for my next trip.
No more JQs flights for me, even if engineering problems don't arise 100% of the time.

Ive had jq rebook me on VA if required. Just have to push a little.

I actually thought that was an accepted practice. I'm sure VA have rebooked me on QF before......but I must admit, I cannot remember the specifics so maybe I dreamt it!

Not going to put my paw/hand into the JQ fire again.
Thats it, have now made 2 trips with QF instead of the one with JQ (upcoming) and the return with TT, am so scared, as JQ and TT have a habit of cancelling flights.
Granted VA and QF do too, but less chances of being stranded, if I did do the upcoming JQ and TT flights.
QF SG now at 380/600.
Wonder if 180 people can be put from a cancelled JQ flight onto a nearly full VA flight successfully though, for that trip last Mon night.
Decided not to do the voucher request or fare refund for my cancelled JQ flight.
Going the Flying Kanga and VA from now on.

Interestingly, I have seen QF passengers put on JQ when flights have been delayed/cancelled. But it doesn't seem to work both ways.

Er, does it, work both ways?
Would they have put me onto a QF or VA flight, after the $210 for the flight I paid, the next fare up would have been $370, the counter lady said.
But the SMS asked me to check my email, and the email did not mention being put onto another flight.
If I didn't have to work the next day, I could have taken up the hotel cover of $150 and $30 for taxi, as was mentioned in the email as option.
Though there was a JQ flight usually dep MEL at 6am, to arr in ADL at 7.10am or so, on the 29 Dec, it was scheduled to dep MEL at 7.10am arr ADL 8.20am and I had to start work at 8.30am.

JQ have put me on QF flights when they have cancelled their flight. I've even earned QF status credits! It can and does happen... Probably not always...

ive just said yes it does.... but if you cant be bothered calling and talking to them then you will never find out for yourself....

I rang after I arrived back in ADL, the 13yyyy phone number, press several numbers, transferred to the Philippines which I was expecting anyway.
I told the girl I wasn't happy that I had to pay to get back to ADL because I had to work the next day.
After she asked me to hold for 5 mins x 2, she did the spiel about the 15 days thing, ie, the voucher or the refund, and neither would be guaranteed, but I would be informed in 15 days of the result of either.
I thought the voucher was easier, than the refund, where I have to give her my card #.
She said to speak to the online thingo, girl/guy/auto feature, and to put an explain on that.
But then I read somewhere else, that the voucher/travel credit/credit bank, has to be used in 3 months, meaning I have to book another fare, with another chance of a cancellation.
In the end, $99 JQ fare down the loo, plus $210 for the QF fare coming back to ADL.
But in the end, I still get the 10 QF SC anyway.
JQ gets my $, palming their pocket/(profit) and also in the end QF's profit.
Will let my other JQ fare go as well for Mar, booked QF instead. One TT flight, I will let that slide as well, not taking a chance when there are only 2 TT flights on Sun MEL - ADL.

Ok, finale of the saga of that cancelled last JQ flight of the say for 28 Dec 15 I didn't take.
There seems to have been some good from JQ's system/person/persons, so now I am sitting on double whY QF FF points and QF SC, one set from the QF flight I took instead of the replacement JQ flight the next day 29 Dec 15, and another set with a JQ 8yyy flight number, guess that would have been for the replacement flight they assumed I took in lieu.
Ah, so 800 QF FF points and 10 QF SC ahead.
So some good did come out of that cancelled flight.
