Can anyone shed any light on my situation?

My account was opened by my mother in 1998 and was used only once for that family trip to Bali. My account has been inactive since 1998 and has had no activity.

100,000 points were transferred from a family member roughly mid october 13, Dec 31st 13 all points expired??? The expiration of the points was due to inactivity on the account. 11 weeks and all points gone? Really? How does the 18 month inactivity period work? The account was obviously nearing the end of the 18 month period but since the account has had no activity since 1998 not sure how this has come about.

Is ordering a new card counted as activity on your account. I saw on the website that there is a fee of $10 or some fpp for a replacement card but seeing as there were no points in the account prior to ordering a new card this fee must have been waived.

I don't think family transfers count for activity, but I don't know how the 18-months is applied if there's 0 to begin with.

This is very cruel!

I hope you get them back. Start ringing QFF if you haven't already..

This doesn't seem in the spirit of the inactivity rules, surely having just got the points you should have time to use them! Maybe IM Red Roo here...

Let us know how you go.

Family transfer are specifically noted as not counting for activity. Been that way for a long time.

Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions
(f) family transfers do not count as activity on your membership or the membership that you transfer the Points to, for the purpose of preventing Points from expiring.

Ordering a new card, at a cost of 1000 points, the day the points were deposited may have extended the life by 18 months. Also the points may have gone at the end (or mid) Oct due to "no activity" $31 of shopping at Woolworth saves many

Was there flights, car rentals, hotel or ??? that could be claimed as activity in the last 3? months

Is it 18 months since your family member had activity in their account? -- Just wondering if that is how they have applied the 18 month.

Has the 100,000 been returned to your family member by any chance?

I am aware that family transfer don't count, my point is the points were only in the account for 11 weeks before expiring. Account balance has been 0 for 10+ years

The 11 weeks means nothing:- they were not activity.
Points may have gone the day they were transferred or at the end of the month (Oct)

Why were they transferred and not left in the original account?
Or were you trying to transfer from 1 non active account to another non active account?

Seems a bit unreasonable that if my account had a expiry date of 31/12/13 and points were transferred on the 30th that they would expire the following day. I am sure 99.9% would find this unreasonable

Why were they transferred and not left in the original accout?

Christmas gift from mum for Holiday.

I am guessing that December was the expiry of the points in the original account, which carrys through to the new account until real activity occurs.

Not the case because points never expire as long as account has activity within 18 month period

ok so just to clarify, your mums account (where the points were transferred from) has had activity in the 18months before 31st December 2013?

if the above is true, then you're presenting a rather unique case, which I definitely think is worth asking Red Roo to look into.

Transfer is not activity, I am suggesting the origin account had no activity since June year before, that would mean points transferred have a Dec expiry on them regardless, unless the new account got some additional activity in the meantime. If thats not the case then you have a reason to call Qantas and ask for further details I would suggest.

Absolutely. She has credit card and everyday rewards card linked to QFF so would have had numerous activity for whole time account has been open

But no activity in your QF freq flyer account, so they have gone.
Activity in your mum's account has no bearing on activity in your QF account.

Ouch ... in hindsight, it's a wonder they took 11 weeks - they could have been 'expired' the day they were transferred.

I agree with the others; while by the rules this is what can happen, it is a rather unusual case and hopefully Red Roo will step in and look at the circumstances.
