Anyone heard of Getaway Escapes?

I just got a cold call from "Getaway Escapes". Anyone heard of these people?

What they were sellling, was $199 pay today, then you get return flight and 7 day accomodation. You have 2 years to book.

So I asked what sort of holiday. I was told flight is DJ, accomodation can be anything from 3 star to 5 star, including IHG and Accor group.

I asked if these is any black out period, and was told none. But she could not tell me what class is the air ticket going to be.

It sounds a little to good to be true, and I am worried about the ticket class.

Did a look up on their ABN, and it was first registered 14 Jan 2009, so not much of history.

Anyone care to comment? Should I buy it?

Oh, comments from your guys ASAP would be great. The lady said they will call back tonight!

I'm not aware of the company, but I have heard of similar schemes.

I like to live by the saying 'if it sounds too good to be true it probably is'.

Given that there's no margin on DJ flights (I lie there is 1% if lucky), how are they making money if there's not something dodgy about it?

I'd steer clear if it were me, but it's just my 2c

That's not what I read from their website.

Getaway Escapes are please to introduce our promotional flight packs. You can purchase a twin share flight package at only $199 ($49.75 per person each way) to most major Australian destinations. You have 24 months to use your flight vouchers with Getaway Escapes and its partners, all you need to do is book a minimum 7 night package with us at selected resorts at normal resort rates.

These flights can be used all year around as there are no exclusion periods. All major airlines are used and these flights are fully transferable so if you find you can’t use these, you can pass them on to family and friends. You are unable to use your accomodation vouchers with this offer and are unable to book these online.

Methinks the commission (and/or perhaps markup) from the 7 night package would be how they get the $$$ back.

You seem to have caught it.

Also, check the flight destinations available (also on the website). They are all fairly cheap destinations ex-the advertised cities.

The girl did call back tonight.

I asked her about the hotel, and she said that's the package, air fare + 7 night accomodation. So I pressed her about the costs of accomodation, and she could not answer. Her answer was I don't know, this is my second day here. ???

I told her I simply cannot buy anything if I don't know what I am buying.

So that's it. Got me quite excited this arvo when they called (although not as excited as my appointment with orthodontist this morning

Totally INCORRECT Bob (not sure where your speculative comment came from). I know two people who work for Getaway Escapes. I am given to understand that the companies (FHT & Funtastic) are now doing their marketing from overseas! They closed their doors here in Australia.

If you have a look at Getaway Escapes website you will note that they are a licenced Travel Agent and they are also a member of the Travel Agents Compensation Fund - No 9839.

Please get your facts straight Bob, don't put yourself in the position of being defamatory.

Not sure where you got that from Bob? I was one of the people who got ripped off by Funtastic holidays and got a call from Getaway escapes who have honoured all my vouchers and I have just got back from a trip and had a great time. I did ring Department of Fair trading and they said Funtastic Holidays or FHT got closed down but Getaway is nothing to do with them. I think the lady who used to run it is in jail which is where she belongs!

So where did you go? Where did you stay? How many nights? What was the total accommodation cost? These kinds of things would help for us to work out the true value of this type of deal.

Oh, and you wouldn't happen to have any relation to any staff at Getaway Escapes would you? First posts that are overly positive towards something can either be someone very happy, or someone very close to the subject they're posting about. Hopefully it's the first, not the 2nd!

God you people are all so sad... no I don't work for them and don't even know where their office is? or anyone who works for them.. Just happen to come across this when I was checking out something else and as I did get ripped off by the other company, funtastic, thought I would throw my two cents in and that they actaully tried to help me. I went to the Gold Coast and stayed at the Oaks by the Gold Coast airport and had a great time, it costed about $1100 for me and my daughter and we came from Tas,

Thought that I could help on this chat thing but guess I was wrong and I don't want to be involved in something that you all are just out to moan about something weather its good or bad.. less if you lost money you get to moan but most of you are have never ever talked to this company - why don't you try giving them a chance. Don't worry I won't post again.
