Flights FROM asia to BNE that are not overnight

I've been looking for a way to get back from Asia without enduring the overnight return flight from HKG, MNL, SIN or just about anywhere. I've used the SQ 9:30am departure getting back to BNE at 1930. A nice way to complete a journey. Usually though I need to have a connection in from Philippines so it's not so easy.

On the weekend I came back from Phnom Pehn on Silkair, then connected to the afternoon EK432 departing SIN at 15:15 into BNE at 0100. Not exactly overnight, not exactly afternoon, but it does give timing to allow connection from many SEA cities and get home with the same day feeling.

For me, felt a lot better today than having endured 7 hr 50 minutes of broken sleep.

I often caught the EK flight for that reason, you might lose half a day in Asia but you gain a day in Australia.
 
Yes, I can understand your reasoning. I once did the CX midnight flight BNE- HKG. Was a shocker flight for rest and then a shocker of a day in the Plaza Lounge recovering prior to the connection to KTM. Coming back overnighted in HK and flew CX arriving back in BNE about 11pm. A much better trip on the body.

On the weekend I came back from JHB on MH, then connected to the morning MH135 departing KUL at 9:45 into BNE at 20:10.
 
FWIW it's no comparison in J either, did Qf52 followed by the EK flavor two days later. Only downside is the marathon walk to customs.

Flying back overnight is no longer enjoyable.Last trip we flew back to BNE on MH,next trip is SQ and the following one CX.
 
I had forgotten the MH options. The issue for me is the timing. If they leave early morning then it is that little bit harder to connect in from another city. Thinking about the trip overall, the day flights need an overnight stay in another city which adds to the complications of the journey.

(Maybe we just need faster planes or more direct flights.)
 
Afternoon ex SIN on Emirates is the easiest option I'm finding, makes connecting easy and its a day flight most of the way.

another niceity was interlining the baggage from Silkair to Emirates. all worked seamlessly.

on a previous outbound flight when i tried interlining my baggage from QF to SQ it couldn't be done.

so perhaps Emirates falling outside of both alliances removes them from needing to stick to 'alliance' rules.

Interlining baggage (on I assume on separate bookings) has nothing to do with alliance rules, it is entirely a function of interlining agreements the airline has and its policy on through checking luggage on separate tickets.

Your ability to through check from Silkair to Emirates had little to do with Emirates really (other than the fact they have an agreement with MI), it was because Silkair (and SQ) allow through checking of luggage on separate tickets/PNRs to anyone they have an agreement with (which is most full service carriers). They would do the same if you were transferring to QF, MH, CX, GA or KE (ie. oneworld or skyteam carriers).

QF on the other hand adopted a policy a few years ago that they would only do so to other one world partners. Before then it was easy to do QF -> SQ luggage transfers on separate PNRs.

The golf buggy or multiple wheelchairs is par for the course (if you'll pardon the pun) for QF52, no so much for pax joining in SIN but for those coming from further a field which general involves an inbound 9W flight.

QF made the decision about three years ago to not interline to carriers on separate pnrs unless they were One World members. This was came about after the Icelandic volcano eruption that saw thousands of passengers stranded worldwide while flights were grounded.

As QF had no access to the onward tickets due to oncarriage being in a separate pnr it was a nightmare trying to get pax to their final destination but they footed the accommodation bill as they'd through checked the bags to the final destination. If the non-OW airline eg SQ, LH is on the same ticket as the QF flights it isn't a problem as the eticket can be accessed for the purpose of a re-issue due to an involuntary re-route.

One World member airlines have an agreement that they can re-issue each others tickets hence the reason why QF allow oncarriage flights in separate pnrs to be added as long as those airlines are OW members or EK (excludes JQ).

You may find that interlining SQ to QF will work in the other direction on separate pnrs however that's entirely up to SQ if they want to or not.

We flew BKK/BNE on TG473 back in March 2359/1205+1 which is still overnight being a 9 hour flight there is more opportunity for recent plus you arrive at a decent time ie not the crack of dawn when a heap of other flights arrive hence customs at that time was a breeze.

I guess it depends a lot in which cabin you're flying however we were lucky to be in J on the TG 77W with the newest full flat config so were well rested (as part of a US DM 30K points sortie to GUM).

What you're doing the day of travel immediately prior to the flight can also determine how the flight is going to be & we were staying the the Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport and had use of our hotel room up until 2200 which is a lot quieter than the TG lounges.

The hotel gives you a 24 hour stay from when you checkin and we'd flown in the night prior from PEK and didn't checkin to the hotel until about 2200. We'd ventured into Bankgok on the train and spent a few hours near Siam Centre so got back to the hotel mid-afternoon so we could just chill out and relax and have a sleep before heading out to the airport.
 
I like the SQ daytime flight back to BNE too. Preferably with a stop overnight beforehand in the crowne plaza changi if the timing works out (I find these days overnight flights in Y really knock me around).
 
Coming back from Europe; I am always looking for the longer overnight flight to Asia; as the short overnight ex Asia to Australia is a killer.

Perth is usually pretty good, there is even a day flight leaving Perth at 6:00am which gets to Europe in the evening; trying to figure if that is going to be good or bad.
 
Already been mentioned, but CX operate a HKG-BNE flight during the day. Additionally, their overnight flight is the worst of the bunch because it stops at CNS on the way so you get woken up even earlier!!

I don't find the ex-Asia over night flights to be too bad. I eat in the lounge, have my welcome drink and then go straight to sleep as soon as the seat belt sign is off, often skipping breakfast too in order to maximise rest. Admittedly all recent trips have been in J, so that helps.

I can do this with a late night departure (eg SIN-MEL @ 2350 on SQ), but much earlier, say around 8:30pm (current QF timing) it ain't going to happen for me ... even at home in a proper bed I couldn't get to sleep so early. Net result start falling asleep at best 3 hrs into the flight which only leaves 3hrs until descent begins. Maybe better out of HKG or BKK which are longer flights. In economy I don't even try to sleep, if I do it's a bonus.
 
My preferred options into Brisvegas from Asia is the Eva Air flight.
Departs TPE 11pm, arrives BNE 10am........9 hour flight.
China Airlines has similar timings, but Eva is Star Alliance

As for daytime flight options.........there is always Air Asia X from KUL-OOL (10.10am - 8.20pm)
 
Do people really struggle sleeping in general? I can understand there may well be issues sleeping on a flight but does that transfer to being able to sleep at home as well after the flight? :confused:

Latest trip left SIN at ~23:45 on QF6 and arrived home in SYD just before midday. Slept ~4-5 hours on flight but still tired. Slept an hour or so at home then packed my bag and headed back to airport going back to BNE. Arrived BNE late afternoon early evening but had lots of things to catchup so slept closer to midnight. Struggled slightly next couple of days but small price to pay for another overseas trip.

I guess I could sleep easily at all times of the day which makes trip planning easy and all I need to focus on is maximising time away.

For me, yes. I find that I'm still tired in the day. The 7 hour flight even in SQ J doesn't give me enough uninterrupted sleep. I feel a little groggy for the rest of the day after arrival. This is then coupled with all of the happy employees and family whom want to see me as well.

The absolute worst overnight flight I had was on PR MNL-BNE with the one hour Darwin stop in the night. For my next MNL trip I paid more for a one way on PR to get there quickly (daytime) and I'm doing a SQ J redemption to get home (longer).
