It has taken 19 years for the Dockers to make an AFL grand final.
The rush for seats on planes and accommodation may stretch Melbourne from tonight.
By the way who is going to the grand final?

I'd love to go but cannot see it happening at this stage.

I just got an email from friends (Freo nutters) who are currently touring the US. They have already started the 8hr drive to LAX to catch a flight to MEL for the Grand Final.

I think we only get a maximum of 6 grand final seats so we won't have any spare ones. We appear to have someone sleeping on the couch and both of our sons are going.
We booked to get there on points by going PER-BNE-MEL in J and we were joking last night about using Singapore , Auckland and KL as ways to get to Melbourne.
I think the direct air fares will be determined by how much more new capacity is introduced to allow fans to get an air ticket. There should be deals for Melburnians to leave Melbourne this week.

We (Infinity, serfty and myself) are ...

No great surprise, but next Friday, one of the tiny number of Virgin fares remaining I saw was $805 one way; another was $1346.

There do not seem to be any cheap VA fares from MEL to PER on Friday 27 September or the reverse direction on Sunday 29 September.

Is one reason (apart from the usual demand on any weekend) because VA do not have spare aircraft to run extras for the footy fans?

Is the situation any different with QF - is the latter, for instance, rustling up a spare 744 and running it across the Bight initially from SYD, back to MEL, then again to PER and back to MEL or similar?

Hvr you may want the breweries to make some extra beer for the visitors to Melbourne.
I saw where you could pay up to $1800 each way on a direct economy flight to Melbourne from Perth late last night. That should control the number of Dockers members heading to the grand final.

They were talking buses for many the 18000 registered¹ Dockers supporters last night ...

... just waiting to secure my seats in 15 minutes ...

¹ for GF purchase should they make it

I have a classic award to Melbourne on Wednesday, if I get 2 tickets from some mates who are Fremantle members I will go to Melbourne and go to the game with Dad :)

PS Go Hawks - from an eagles fan!

I'll be there.
For those of you who can't make it, here is a quick summary of what will happen.

whatever seats are still available are now over $1000+ o/w on the Friday. The airlines would be just rubbing their hands in delight .

With our group of four one has a work paid flight and the other three of us are going PER-BNE-MEL in J on points. All four of us are getting excited.

Pity Jetstar didn't have their 787, but I am wondering whether Jetstar can up-gauge some of their A320 flights to A330 flights.

If someone can get get me a ticket for the match (or knows how I can acquire one), I'll more than happily fly down from SIN for it. :P (700rtn on JQ, compared to 1200++ from PER o.w!!)

If anyone else will in the business cabin of VA694 on the Friday feel free to say hello. I will be one wearing no sign of purple as I am just flying home from work for another week. Even a few months ago the airfares were high enough for me to have booked this one as a reward in business.
