As a member of the Qantas Founders Museum, I've just received their latest newsletter and fundraising drive towards two projects that are currently ongoing at the museum. As the museum is dear to my heart, I wanted to share this with AFF, in case you too are interested in helping them out. I want to stress that this is a voluntary donation and that if you are at all inclined, you need to contact them and make payment to them, not me.
Separately, I'd like to advise of a LRE Do to be held next year. The Do will take in the museum, the jet tours, possibly some wing walks for those inclined and ultimately, a 3-course dinner in the museum with special guest speaker(s). It will also take in the Stockmans Hall of Fame, a brilliant museum dedicated to the outback, and with any luck, a trip on a paddleboat steamer up the Thomson River or a night under the stars. Things are still coming together, so you'll have to wait for more details, but it looks set to be an exciting weekend and at this stage, I'm just seeking ideas on how many would be interested.
Attached is their fundraising pamphlet.
I have been in touch with admin, and this post has been approved.
- The first is their purchase of a Super Connie, which isn't in working condition but has been dismantled in preparation for a return to Australia to be reassembled and ultimately restored to be put on display. I'm sure many will agree, the Super Connie looks fantastic at HARS, and this will be no different (other than not operational). Unfortunately, the cost to get her back to Longreach is $1.5 million.
- The second project has been ongoing for many years, and that's the vision to erect a huge roof over their jets to protect them from the Queensland sun. This project is much larger in scale, and cost ($7 million), yet is just as important as it helps to preserve the aircraft they do have on display, for the future.
