Our cabin crew will ensure that you have a memorable flight, led by an experienced Flight Service Director, or Senior Hostess (don't forget, you're back in the Sixties now...) You'll leave the world behind for a few hours, sitting in business style seating, enjoying first class meals with beers and wines (not just one!) from real glassware, crockery and cutlery, laid out on table linen.

We're very proud of NOT having an inflight entertainment system. Why do you need one? Take the time to wander the aircraft, visit the coughpit and see how the crew work. While away the time engaging in the endangered art of conversation with your fellow passengers, or with
members of the crew.

As he was looking at doing a flight on one. I am cetainly looking at doing one!

They are looking at doing historic flights next year in March.

So question is, should we organise an AFF "meet" and travel somewhere for the day?

I actually saw that, but was thinking if a group of us went we’d probably do a charter? And I know we could multiply the number of seats by $250, but I doubt that’ll be the actual price, so wondered roughly how much a flight for a group of us would cost, assuming it wasn’t just a joyflight if someone knew

I was looking at the flights they were doing.. MEL-SYD etc.. fly up on the old bird and fly back on the red rat!

This looks like fun. Question begs to be asked though ... is the plane still airworthy?

Website says approx $580 for MEL-SYD (or BNE-SYD).. 2 hours flight time...

I lke the look of the DRW-Longreach// stopover-QF Museum // Longreach-BNE~~

...but I'm already booked to be in the USA on those dates in 2011... Only option for me seems to be SYD-MEL on MArch 2... I get back from LAX on March 1! Be interesting to go from a 777/747 to a DC-6!!

Airworthy? Why not? Let alone the restoration - it was only built in 1958... I've flown in (and jumped from) a number of "DC-3's" (C-47's more likely of course) that were quite a bit older than that!

Before worrying about what the baggage allowance is, it would be a higher import to be looking at where to acquire some proper 1960s luggage and also reading materials for such a flight.
At least the latter category is one I would not need to worry over much about for such a flight, as among my book collection are 2 late 1960s first edition Anne McCaffery paperbacks.

Hmmmm.....if we get the same Senior Hostess she probably would be in her sixties now. Eek.

Yes, we can promise you that she is very much airworthy - she has less than 16000 flying hours since 1958, and was a former presidential aircraft for President Tito of Yugoslavia. Add to that she was rebuilt from the ground up in 1997, and you have a perfect example of how a vintage airliner should be restored and operated.

You'll find a group charter to be very cost effective, as cost calculations vary depending on the flight - chartering the aircraft for yourselves will end up being cheaper than buying 60 individual seats.

May I ask, what are the plans for after the tour of Australia? Will she be going somewhere else, or still around for more charters?

Just thinking of a little event planned at the end of May.

Might have been able to tie in a private train trip one direction and DC6 trip the other for AAFers.
