Hi all
Just a general question - is anyone here planning to support Movember? In terms of background this the text of an email I just sent around to guys in the finance team in my office:

-------------------------------------
Hi All,

During Movember (the month formerly known as November) I'll be growin a Mo. That's right I'm bringing the Mo back because I'm passionate about changing men's health and the fight against male depression and prostate cancer. Why...

Depression affects 1 in 6 men...Most don't seek help. Untreated depression is a leading risk factor for suicide.
Last year in Australia 18,700 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer and more than 2,900 died of prostate cancer - equivalent to the number of women who die from breast cancer annually.
Men are far less healthy than women. The average life expectancy of males is 5 years less than females.
This is not just a shameless grab for donations (as I am sure you will all get plenty of other shameless grabs for your cash) but also just to warn people that for most of Movember I will be sporting a more grizzled face than usual and if you are planning to bring small children or people of a nervous disposition onto the floor I wanted to give you fair warning so that they are not too scared by the grumpy old man with the scary hairy face!

The money raised by Movember is donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue - the national depression initiative, which will use the funds to create awareness, fund research and increase support networks for those men who suffer from prostate cancer and male depression.

More info is available at Movember - Grow a Mo.

----------------------------

This is quite a big thing for some of my former colleagues and timing has never been good for me (I had my first meeting with my Asia boss last Movember so it was not appropriate to trun up unshaven.

Anyone else doing this?

I am planing to make an animated gif of the growth which I might post here :0

Cheers

I did it last year, and must say there is a reason that I go around unshaven. Was a pretty poor excuse for a mo, and I couldn't wait till the end of the month to shave it off. While I won't be doing it this year, I will be supporting the guys in the office that do it this year.

Hmmm, a mo challenge....

Am tempted, but as I have a trip to China early next month, not sure if it will be suitable.

I agree that it is for a good cause

This year the timng works well for me - I will have 2 weeks of Mo before I leave for Hong Kong so I wont just look a mess when I get there... min dyou I have meetings with our Exec Team throughout Movember as well...

My division did it last year and we raised $5000+. It is a great cause.

Clients were receptive (once we explained) and we got a little press (Courier Mail 'Queensland Confidential' section - think we were the only ones to read it!)

Some had Chopper-Reid style, others had ol' French style. I had nothing... contemplated using hair dye to assist!

We were all very itchy...

Style is definitely something I will be pondering this weekend - I will have my usual Fri-Sun growth to see if any patches may interrupt a design :)

I'd have to shave mine off at the begging ...

So simon.... how is this progressing?

Time for an update.

Ok - a couple of before and after shots (if these work)

We'll have to rename your handle to "MoGr" if you keep the growth up :)

Congrats on supporting a good cause!

At the end of the day, so looking a little stubbley and I forgot to take a photo with a naked face on the 1st, but it's comming along. Currently in Seoul and the Koreans seem quite accepting of it (as did the Taiwanese earlier in the week).

Anyone need identikit components? :D

Well I guess that confirms that Dot is not short for Dorothy  .
Well - funny you should say that - it is actually short for Dorothy.

This Dorothy

and I (almost) share a surname. My PE teacher at school (many years ago now) was the first to call me Dot.

Also - Simongr - nice Mo Bro!

Well done Simon.

I spotted a mate 10 days in November to get his underway. I let mine go for 2 weeks before shaving prior to coming to HKG this weekend.

I have to admit, I was quite glad to get it off!!

People have been very receptive towards it (when explained) and there is definitely a wider response to and recognition of Movember than in years past.

The final Mo!!!

ABout $500 raised - counting the hours now to when I get home tonight and the bl00dy thing is shaved off :)

If anyone wants to donate - you can go to www.movember.com/au and donate directly I believe :)

A round of applause for those that participated in this.

Next year I will definitely have to do this.

Perhaps an AFF Movember sub-challenge.
