Coonawarra Wine Tasting Roadshow ($49) - Friday 10th August, 5-8pm @ Sydney City Town Hall – Lower Level

Olek Bondonio (Barbaresco) & Ristorante Real Castello di Verduno (Piedmont) @ Acme
  • Sunday 5th August 12.00 / 2.30 / 6.00 / 8.30 PM
  • Monday 6th August 6.00 / 8.30 PM
$90 for 5 course set menu (extra $10 for Australian black truffle option), with wine/beverage charged on consumption

This August, Giorgio De Maria of Fun Wines will join forces with the team from Ristorante Real Castello di Verduno and rockstar Barbaresco producer Olek Bondonio, to bring a taste of Piedmont to Australia. With the help of chef extraordinaire Pasi Petanen, the gang will host one lunch and two dinners in both Sydney and Melbourne. This will be a true celebration of traditional Piedmontese cuisine alongside the soulful wines of Barbaresco.

The menu will be curated by Alessandra Buglioni di Monale with help from her cousin Liliana Burlotto, celebrating some of the winter classics from the Ristorante Real Castello di Verduno, including bagna cauda, risotto al Barbaresco, raviole ris e coi, finanziera, bollito misto, tagliata alla Carlo Alberto and zabaione.

The wines will predominantly be Olek’s (Arneis, Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo, Barbaresco and Barbaresco Roncagliette from different vintages ’15, ’11, ’10, ‘09) with a small selection from Olek’s neighbours and friends (Ezio Cerruti, Serafino Rivella, Dr. Giuseppe Cappellano, Cascina Roccalini and Giacomo Anselma).

There will be an exclusive Olek Bondonio wine flight available or a la carte choice for people who prefer to keep it loose.

Paolo Scavino Masterclass @ Prince Wine Store - 6.30pm Wednesday 19th September ($65)

Dr Edge + Brian Productions present: The Most Original Wine Tasting Ever
6.30-9pm this Thursday 23rd August @ P&V Wine + Liquor Merchants ($42)

You may know Peter Dredge as the man behind Tasmania's Dr Edge wines, an accomplice in the hijinks that is the annual release of Brian along with Mike Bennie and Joe Holyman or you may not know him at all.

For the past 20 years, Dredgey has been making wine the world over, from Meadowbank to the Mosel Saar Ruwer, and for one night only, he will be recounting tales of travels, triumphant vintages and getting into trouble while pouring wines of very, very different styles - spanning old world and new, conventional and crazy. He'll be pairing them to music that inspired him and countless others in cellars across the globe along the way from Metallica to Motown to Massive Attack. All wax. All quality.

This is that rarest of chances to get up close and personal with one of the finest winemakers in all the Antipodes, and hear his story, unfined and unfiltered.

Join Brian co-conspirators Mike Bennie and Peter himself for an unforgettable night of wonder.

$42 includes entry to an event that may never be attempted again, along with a taste of 9 wines, including Dr Edge pinots, Brian wines and the new Brian 'Bitter' wine-beer hybrid as well as iconic back vintages fundamental to Peter's career as a winemaker.

Finally organised a trip to Sydney on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th September. Will be available Monday 3rd (unlikely Tuesday as out at Macquarie Park for appointments). @Wozza, @AnonymousCoward, @Katy, @CJEMNMAC, @qaz et al; you up for lunch at the usual spot?
sorry for the late reply @QF WP would really love to.. but cannot make it.. my work has moved and can't really get into the city for lunch anymore :( I just try to get along to any dinner options where possible.

Hi there

I am afraid I cannot do the Monday or the Tuesday lunchtime.

But happy to see if we can do a coffee instead. Text or email me if you have any available slots on the Tuesday afternoon.

Cheers, Wozza

Up near Town Hall at present but realized I don’t have contact details for @Katy - but happy to rendezvous at 12:30 and eat anywhere.

@Wozza, just confirming when two clients want me (I always have to be flexible with them) so will text you when the appointments are locked in - although always open to change. But that’s why I charge them the big bucks :D

:( That’s okay - just arrived and the rain is putting most punters off having lunch (certainly outside). I’m going to find somewhere warm and dry before my 3:30 appt. There’s always next trip.

Unfortunately I didn’t see your message as I was in a meeting then had to hot foot it to Town Hall to catch a train to Parramatta.

I’ll be back hopefully in 6 weeks so we’ll try this again
