With the launch of the new website set for 08 April QF will no longer offer Any Seat Awards - it will simply being the points+pay option. The new site will offer commercial seats and award seats on the same search page. So I guess this is the end of cheap FASA/JASA which share the same revenue class as the classic awards. It was good while it lasted.

where did you hear this? I've not heard one thing to suggest ASA's were going anywhere...

I am a FASA virgin.

:evil::evil::evil:

I hope your source is wrong.

If this is true, they are signing the death warrant for QFF.

Wish I had of submitted my ASA question for the recent lunch, now.

Points+Pay and Any Seat Awards are more or less the same thing. What matters is whether points+pay will give you options from Classic inventory.

(and what is with a new website anyway?)

I read somewhere on AFF (from one of the moderators) that Points + Pay is a very poor use of QFF points cf. to ASA.

If this rumour is to be correct, then the QFF program has been positively "enhanced" to our detriments.

Still curious to know of the OP's source.

Could it be verified by another person (or two)?

I've googled myself to death trying to verify...to no avail. I'm skeptical at the very least of this.

I doubt this as I believe if such a change were made there would be advance notice given

It also seems contrary to the Qantas Travel Agent FAQs released on 28 Feb, referenced in another thread here on AFF

http://www.qantas.com.au/agents/dyn/qf/policies/QF_EK_FAQs_Tradev5.pdf

Specifically
"56.Can Qantas Frequent Flyers use their points to make a Qantas Any Seat Award or a Points Plus Pay booking?
[FONT=QF Spirit,QF Spirit][FONT=QF Spirit,QF Spirit]Yes. Qantas and Jetstar Any Seat Awards and Points Plus Pay on Qantas (QF) codeshare flights operated by Emirates (EK) can now be booked on qantas.com for travel on/after 31 March 2013. "

The source is someone I know (and very reliable) at QF reservations who just completed the training on it. There still will be X/Z/U/P inventory for Points+Pay but who knows at what level. Obviously not as cheap as the current ASA which use same inventory as classic awards.

Currently the ASAs allow for a significant discount if a classic award is available, ie:

If points plus pay is used for the very same flight:

Its entirely possible the new rework of the site will take into account the classic discount, otherwise ASA redemption will drop to almost zero levels.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

The QFF T & C on the Q website effective from 12 March 2013 still includes ASA terms and conditions; there could be new ones coming but it seems odd to have a set effective from this date if they are going to change the program but then I wouldn't put it past them if they know it is going to be a negative "enhancement".

Why would reservations be using the same system as the public, perhaps the changes are more internal centric than end user? Hopefully if its a rework of the public engine, it fixes some major gripes at the same time as creating a few!

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Sorry, I don't buy it.

According to the T & C of QFF:

3.1 Subject to clause 3.2, Qantas reserves the right to make any changes (whether material or otherwise) to Qantas Frequent Flyer, the Terms and Conditions, the Awards or Benefits offered and the Fee Schedule, including:
a) changes to:

a) changes to (among others)

  • the ways in which Points are earned and redeemed;
  • Awards or Benefits, including the continued availability of Awards or Benefits;

Clauses 3.2 and 3.3 effective until 30 April 2013
Note: These clauses 3.2 and 3.3 will be effective until 30 April 2013. Please see below for the new clauses 3.2 and 3.3 that will be effective from 1 May 2013.
3.2 Qantas will use best efforts to advise Members of material changes to these Terms and Conditions and, where such changes will limit Benefits:
(a) where the Benefit is provided by Qantas, to give Members at least 6 months' notice;
(b) where the Benefit is provided by a third party, where possible give Members at least 30 days' notice.
3.3 Without limiting this clause 3 in any way, Members will be taken to have received the notice referred to in clause 3.2 if Qantas notifies Members of the change by:
(a) providing notice at the address or e-mail address provided to Qantas by the Member;
(b) for Members living outside Australia or New Zealand, by posting details of the changes at this website.

According to the OP the change is scheduled to occur in April. As such QF would contravene the rules of their own program by not providing 6 months notice regarding a change to the way in which points are earned and redeemed.

There is a difference in that ASA can return results from classic inventory, but the two are basically the same idea.

Qantas has breached their own T&Cs as recently as a fortnight ago when they announced changes to the earn rate on BA flights, giving just three weeks notice.

Goodbye Qantas Platinum it was nice to know you for a few short years.:(

I am sure ASA will be available in some form but I would expect that there won't be any at bargain basement prices.

Being a third party though they have their clause there (they only missed it by a week)..
