re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Qantas changing the cost of ASAs is not a breach of the T&Cs, as they do it all the time. I would suggest those with plans to do a JASA or two may wish to do some early booking, I also expect we will have a general double SC campaign launch in the next few weeks, most likely just after Easter, I can see a flurry of activity late next week if that happens.

Nothing worse than falling victim to "I told you so", especially when many JASAs are fully refundable (at least domestically).

It might be time to book up some planned JASAs just in case. It can always be cancelled and fully refunded.

The premise of the OP was that ASAs would be removed altogether, not that the redemption rates/costs for an ASA would change.

The change to earn rates on BA was discussed in another thread, however the general belief is that this change was instigated as an act of "retaliation" by BA as a result of winding up the JSA. As such QF would rely on the "best efforts" wording of clause 3.2(b) to provide 30 days notice where the benefit is not offered by QF.

You would expect that the ASA offering is completely at QFs discretion and as such at least 6 months notice SHOULD be possible. I'm not saying they won't do it (none of us are strangers to enhancements) I just think that if it is to happen it won't be in April. Why even bother having a set of T&Cs if you're never going to adhere to them?

Qantas has breached their own T&Cs as recently as a fortnight ago when they announced changes to the earn rate on BA flights, giving just three weeks notice.

Don't ignore the "best efforts" caveat.

I sincerely hope that this is not the case as this will be the final straw for me and the end of me flying Qantas. 22 years of loyalty.

Have sent an email to Lesley Grant so will be interesting to se her response.

Will post answer as soon as I get one. Assuming ofcourse that I do

I suspect this an exercise in semantics. I predict ASA awards will continue, and some will be available at high levels of points, and some at the lower levels when classic inventory is available. I doubt the payment method will change. You will still be able to pay for an ASA by points, or points and cash.

This is my view. Combining searches into one spot doesn't mean the options are going away at all.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

One of my questions related to increasing the opportunity for award seats given all the partners now available in which to get points. Not specifically ASA but reward flights in general due to increased competition for seats.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Hope this is a rumour, i.e. there will continue to be Classic-priced ASAs, though if they merge points+pay with the ASA interface I have no idea how this will happen. Only thing that springs to mind is that you can switch between points and cash cost on the same page; once you select your flights you get the usual slider. But still unsure how this works e.g. a JASA that has a Classic price of 128k, versus someone trying to buy that same fare with 50k points plus a bucket of cash.

Only thing I can possibly foresee is that it might be much harder to target and find Classic priced ASAs. Classic availability against Classic-priced ASA availability does not correlate all the time.

Only other thing which springs to mind is essentially a replication of the VA model, which means ASAs as we know it will disappear leaving only points+pay. Classic awards will maintain a separate search engine; Classic awards on QF and JQ metal will earn points and SCs (but may be ineligible for upgrades). Naturally, my money isn't on this one, and if it does happen there may be an adverse effect on WPs requesting Classic seats.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

When these rumours crop up, it would be nice for someone from QF to jump on them before they turn into a "QF is ditching all awards" thread.

Unless, of course, their silence speaks for itself.

 Not sure what this means. The OP clearly say that commercial (I assume they mean cash) and awards fare will be shown on the same search page.

I actually brought this up with the QF panel at the Rockpool lunch. I suggested that a simple no from Red Roo would be all it takes for a rumour of this nature from turning into a 30 page thread full of wild scare-mongering and baseless speculation.

Often Australian sourced JASA/FASA now incur a $371 cancelation fee per PNR. If booked as a sector outside Oz then it generally doesnt apply

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

This is not good news as it is a way people use points with there CC spend.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Still April is not far away and no dougbt all will be revealed. (post ACCC Ek etc)

I dougbt QF will be making life easier.

Just like all the recent frequent flier credit card programs getting kaned for ATO payments, points caps etc,

Maybe we should just try to roll over and die??

Me thinks not!

AFFers, now's the time to stand our ground if such things eventuate

We have mass and bargaining power

Let the competitive forces unravel

I'm up for it

Are you guys/gals?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Qantas would be mental to get rid of ASAs. Right now my most commonly booked JASA is a simple MEL/ADL, a route for which there's plenty of classic award availability. I always book it at as a JASA, which means QF gets my points plus around $170 every time. If they got rid of ASAs I'd book it as a classic award, meaning they'd lose $170 of revenue - for what? It would be madness.

The cancellation rules vary, it its well known and well documented elsewhere in the forum.

It is important for anyone who is considering making bookings in light of this thread to be fully cognisant of the rules (especially in relation to cancellation) pertaining to each and every individual booking.
