Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

Hi All

Does anyone in this forum know if Q will be changing their policy so that ANY SEAT redemption bookings could possibly earn SC's and FF miles.

Some of the points req'd seem adsurb (ie. MEL-JFK in ECON for 1.1 million points) relative to classic seats (MEL-JFK 130k in ECON). It only seems fair that for the points surcharge that SC's and points should be awarded.

Or is that just wishful thinking....

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

Yes it's changing ... and soon! (Although, "soon" is soon to be defined ;) )

See: Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Program News - Points Expiry

Coming soon, you will be able to earn points and status credits when you travel on eligible Any Seat Award flights with Qantas and partner airlines (excluding Jetstar#), and upgrade on selected Any Seat Awards with Qantas.~

# Available soon on eligible flights on Qantas and partner airlines taken as Any Seat Awards (excluding Jetstar).
~ Available soon on Qantas operated flights with a 'QF' flight number on your ticket. Not available on heavily discounted fares such as bookings in N, O, Q, E and X classes.

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

Supposedly in June. As per previous notes about it on other changes.

As for what they should charge, you should know Any Seat awards generally cost more, but not always. You’re thinking too big, too much. I see the policy change more like a few domestic flights (where the Any Seat awards are sometimes very competitive) could help get you over the line to renew status. Not that you could get a F ticket to the US for cheap and then get Gold or Platinum status as a result!

"Soon" appears to be today given the lastest update to the QFF terms

Effective 23 March 2010

9.3.1 Subject to clauses 9.3.2 and 9.4, Points for air travel may be earned
only for paid travel or Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Awards (excluding for
the avoidance of doubt any Qantas & Partner Classic Award) on regular scheduled
flights where a Qantas flight number (or the flight number of any oneworld
Alliance Airline or Airline Partner not excluded under clause 9.4) is entered
on the itinerary ('Eligible Flight').

and Status credit earning is included.

This is good, but I’ll wait for the official announcement :p

Yeah it's good to see it in the T&C's, but is surprising that Qantas hasn't officially announced it if things have changed.

Hopefully someone here is travelling on a Qantas Anyseat award soon and can let us know of their experience.

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

I had a brief look online for an award seat between MEL and BNE one-way, and it was only 4000 points more for an anyseat award, and if that earned not only points but SC’s too, it’s suddenly a vastly better deal.

I assume that price is for a seat in Red e-Deal?

On cheap Any Seat Awards, there may not be any points or SCs due.

EDIT: Well, this is interesting. The Airline Earning Table has been updated to reflect the Any Seat Awards being paid points and SCs now, but they only have one class of each service type - X, Z, U, P - in the table. I know that Classic Seats book into X for Economy; I wonder if each "fare type" in an Any Seat Award situation will have different fare codes too, and only some of them are X (and others may be something else). This gets a little hairy too if QF offer the opportunity to upgrade some Any Seat Awards (as having all as one class - X - doesn't take into account different upgrade amounts and types).

It is also interesting to see that there are no Full Economy Any Seat Award earning rates. X is Discount Economy and the next one up is Z for Premium Economy. Apart from that, all eligible Any Seat Awards earn at the same rate as cash tickets.

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

Ive just booked a few flights to Singapore on Anyseat rewards for trvavel in April. How do I check what class of fare it is and if it will SC's?

What a coincidence that Qantas enabled this feature the day after I posted about it!

Thanks all for your help. At least now ASR's help retaining status.

Actually no. I was looking at a J ticket with the classic being 24000 and the ASR being ~28000. It’s only 1250 points, but that’s 60SC’s. Well worth it if you’re short and need to get across the line sort of thing.

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

Wow! That is an early implementation of the expected changes.

I wonder if more people will start hunting Any Seat Awards rather than Classic Awards now? How long before we start hearing stories of people getting status using QFF points only?

Effectively status from CC earnings, as you’d get the points to buy tickets to get status. Just in a longer more-roundabout route. It’s good… until the lounges fill up too much.

As I earn quite a few CC points each year I will be looking at the ASR closely.

Just checked and 42000 points can get SYD-MEL-PER in J on Monday mornings in April and this should earn 5035 points and 120 SC's.

10 of those using 420000 points and earning 50350 gets me WP each year.

This is going to be interesting.

Why is there a little voice in the back of my head that tells me that 420,000 points (or rather a little less) is rather cheap for WP requal, and that this might not be such a hot idea....

Is there a kind of demographic consideration or something else which balances this off which I have missed.....

We do need to remember however that not everyone will earn 420000 points in a lifetime let alone 12 months.

In my case though I am already searching for ASR to get past LTS this year, then onto LTG.

I’ll make sure I’m flying the same day as you to get J lounge access in the future ;) :p

I think the people that make the kind of money that would get them there with ASR’s mostly have WP or at least SG already, so it’s probably not going to be a major difference.

It might get a few more members to PS/SG at most though, which could be a difference.

No worries at all. However if you are on the same flight in Y please do NOT walk past the curtain or bossreggie and I may get upset.

50000 points for J BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN = 180SCs, we live in interesting times.

I would treat it the same as when JohnK got an op-up on the same flight as me, a simple glass of red will do just fine to keep me content.

And anyway, who’s to say I’ll not be in 1A :p
