Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

I would treat it the same as when JohnK got an op-up on the same flight as me, a simple glass of red will do just fine to keep me content.

And anyway, who’s to say I’ll not be in 1A :p

If you do take seat 1A I would request you help in our quest to keep the Y people behind the curtain.;)

Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Beyond the curtain is the folk
That you won't want to see.
Then join in the fight that will give you J cabin privvy!

Do you hear those people whine?
It is the sounds of rabbling men.
It is resounding of the pax who will not step in J again.
When no Y pax are around
Then with your glass of red or white
Sit back, relax, and drink, and please have a pleasant flight!

I have a funny feeling this (and other posts) should be put in the curtain thread

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

Effectively status from CC earnings, as you’d get the points to buy tickets to get status. Just in a longer more-roundabout route. It’s good… until the lounges fill up too much.
As I mentioned in the earlier thread I do not like it. Some people earn millions of points via credit cards but do not have status. Now they will continue to earn millions of points via credit cards and get status and earn QFF points for their trouble. The award alone is reward enough for the credit card points. Qantas handing them status as well is way over the top.

As I earn quite a few CC points each year I will be looking at the ASR closely.

Just checked and 42000 points can get SYD-MEL-PER in J on Monday mornings in April and this should earn 5035 points and 120 SC's.

10 of those using 420000 points and earning 50350 gets me WP each year.

This is going to be interesting.
So it may be as simple as ~370,000 QFF points to maintain Platinum status. Too easy if one values QFF points at 1c a QFF point. There are people who have posted on AFF that they earn over 2 million points a year via credit cards. So theoretically using credit card points Lifetime Silver is achievable in one year, and Lifetime Gold is achievable in 2 years.

With this "enhancement" Anyseat Seat Awards will more than likely become more popular and what is going to happen to Classic Awards? Too bad you now need more QFF points. So much for saving up all those hard earned QFF points flying SYD-BNE every week....

Chances are Classic awards will become cheaper, or ASR will become more expensive, so there’s a difference, and if you want your RTW in J or F you’ll most likely take a classic award as it’ll be far cheaper than an ASR.

You clearly have too much time on your hands but you use it very effectively.

Great post.

Thanks.

People often say that I have too much time, but FWIW that only took me 2 minutes to conjure up. I had the connection singing in my head when I saw the word 'quest'. ;) :D

I do not agree that SC's should be earnt but if they are going to be awarded I will take the option. No different IMHO than people using YUP's in the USA to get cheap SC's as I have always got WP through dom flights in J (the expensive way).

I think if more people take up ASR's Classic Rewards may become easier to get. Time will tell.

Don't be so sure.

With more WPs (and SGs to a somewhat lesser extent) around, this means more people who can finally see J and F seats that could never be seen. Or for WPs, to another extent, J and F seats that you could never get unless you were allowed to submit a request to yield management (which is something WPs can do).

As long as there are more people with status around, competition for premium Classic Awards will be much stiffer. After all, only a wastrel and/or a sadis_ would purchase premium longhaul seats with an Any Seat Award (even if they pay off is a "high" number of SCs).

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

At the end of the day you still have to fly to get status, but re we really thinking there is going to be an influx of high status frequent flyers around because of this change?? I have my doubts.

Most normal pax don't even look at SC earning when factoring in flights so I don't think a lot of people would go looking for the good ASR deals to gain status.

Now people on AFF are not normal ;)so I am sure people are already scanning every possible routing to gain those extra SC's from a trip.

There’s that, although you may earn the points from your CC, will you actually fly (redeem) the miles, especially long-distance, to LHR etc? I’d say not, but even J from SYD to MEL, how often are people likely to take this option now (excluding ejb)? :p

Anyone with good intra-Australia routings should feel free to contact me via PM :p :D

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

What is an ASR? Any Seat Award?

I think if more people take up ASR's Classic Rewards may become easier to get. Time wil tell.
Can we agree that the number of award seats is not likely to increase? So if more people are willing to pay more for an Any Seat Award there will be less Classic Awards around.

Before Any Seat Awards came around there were reports on AFF of people without status struggling to get awards to most destinations. Platinum, and to a lesser extent Gold, could see much better availability.

Then Qantas introduced Any Seat Awards and these people could now burn their points and there was less Classic Awards.

Now you can earn SCs and QFF points for Any Seat Awards I believe there will be even less Classic Awards. Those who earn QFF points the hard way and without status are likely to suffer. Time will tell.

My bad.....typing instead of thinking.

... Those who earn QFF points the hard way and without status are likely to suffer. Time will tell.

This also occurred when Wollies joined the program and every man/woman and child in Australia became a QFF member.

The number of points in the market suddenly rose without an increase in Classic AWARDS so for people without status using those points became harder still without utilising anyseat awards or FF Store.

If I purchase an anyseat award does that ticket come from the award bucket or is it treated like a cash purchase?

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

What is an ASR? Any Seat Award?

You could go ASA. You could also go Any Seat Reward - ASR. I recognised it immediately as that, even though that’s not it’s official name.

I believe it comes from the award bucket. Did someone post something on AFF recently about it all?

One way of checking is to look at some award availability where only Any Seat Awards are offered and check Expert Flyer for the booking class. It would be X for economy, Z for premium economy, U for business, P for first. I don't think the free availability tools show the award buckets.

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

I wonder if there is a "bug" yet to be ironed out. The extremely good value anyseat awards (eg 28K mel-bne in J) seem to correspond to the exact flights that classic awards have availability on (I have noticed this has been the case for a while). I wonder if this will continue to be the case.

They do seem however to be very time sensitive. Same day same route 19000 points for some flights 150000 points for other flights.

They are obviously trying to push you towards some flights.

I am looking now and I think I will booking tomorrow to get the last 80 SC's I need before 1 May.

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

I assume only classic awards give flights other than QF and JQ? So you’re limited to Qf, JQ and any code-shares you can get.

That's what alerted me to it, look at the flights that are 19000 pts vs the ones that are 150000 pts and youl willl see the 19K flights match to flights that have classic awards available for 16K + taxes. WIth taxes in the order of $12 would never spend the extra 3K pts, but with status credit and points earning it's worthwhile.
