Earn Points and SCs with Any Seat Award Flights

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

You buy an anyseat award ticket on the 22nd and one of the conditions of the ticket was that it would not earn SC or points. They are just clarifying that you are bound by the rules on the date you booked. It is not at all unsusual for this to happen.

That makes sense actually, should have figured that out.

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

Hi all,

I just booked a one way anyseat from SYD - PER in J for 42K points including taxes and charges. Usually 36000 plus ~ $25 from memory so not a bad deal.

It is on a A332 so I am crossing my fingers for SkyBeds.

I am hoping that this will earn me the SC's needed to keep WP through to May 2011.

I will report back after the flight on the 13th April.

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

I've just booked a return flight in J to Melbourne this weekend to check out the GP on awards. I'll let people know what credits.

After booking my flight on the 24th, I flew J to Melbourne and back on the weekend with any seat awards and had points and status credits posted to my account within a day of each flight.
The flights also have the usual tilda ~ present to indicate it will be recognised as one the Qantas sectors required to maintain status.
I ended up spending 40123 status credits for the return flight, including carbon credits, but received 2500 points back with a 1250 minumum points post for each direction. So overall flight cost was 37623 points for 80 status credits, which at 1 cent per point equates to $376 for 80 status credits, or approximately $4.70 per status credit, which isn't too bad.
I've noticed some better deals out there if you book flights where you hop via another city, so will be booking one of those soon and letting you know how it goes.

Awesome.

I hope that my J flight I booked on the 23rd will qualify.

Glad to hear this.

I will be getting 80 SC's for my outlay and that will get me WP through May 2011.

Now to completely qualify next year and get PG on ASA only.

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

…And now I really wish I had a proper CC here instead of a debit card and was earning points on all my purchases. By the time I rack up enough points to take advantage, the flights will probably have all increased in “price”.

Grr.

Given the way the market is going with Debit cards, it wont be long until we see something like the AA debit card, not a bad thing IMHO.

180 SCs for 72000 points - hmmm,

I wish… crazy thing is I never overspend and am always good with paying back on time (with an HK CC), but as I don’t satisfy minimum income here, I’m stuck with no-rewards-debit :(

$4/SC isn’t too bad. Where’s that to?

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

I could be wrong but why does NAN come to mind?

Possible, but there are other bargains out there. I just booked a SYD-PER return that hops via melbourne in J. It get's me 240 status credits for the return flight and uses around 84K in points including carbon offset. But I earn another 8K or so with cabin bonus and status bonus, so the total trip is for 76K.

That equates to about $3.16 per status credit. If you factor in that 240 status credits is almost half way to another 500 status credits bonus of 5000FF points, then you can probably take another 2.4K worth of points off the 76K mark, so its more like 73.6K for 240 status credits, which equates to $3.06 per SC. Not bad at all.

You have to do the extra hop via Melbourne, but that is no biggy for most of us chasing SC's.

I'm now regretting not putting my CBA Gold/Amex into QFF direct earn. Might switch over soon.

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

Fantastic news for anyone pumping through their business expenses on a credit card. Unfortunately the majority of people on a normal salary cannot earn too many QFF points so these bargains are useless unless they are really desperate to get SCs before reassessment date.

I much rather spend $650 of my hard earned, measly, salary earning 280 SCs whenever I get a chance to go on holidays in SE Asia.

AND.... There we have the REAL reason this is happening in my view. QF makes a fortune from its FF program. If they are looking to float/sell in the future, the extra direct earn cards etc are sure to increase the value of the program.

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

I value my frequent flyer points at around 2.5 cents each, rather than the nominal 1 cent per point approach. Given this, I would consider the 80 SC cost $940 (37,623 x 2.5c) = $11.75 per SC.

It's unlikely that we will find anything in any seat awards that we would consider a bargain with that metric :P.

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

Flew SYD - MEL last night using ANY SEAT booking in J. I booked on 23/03 and I received No SC's OR Points. Flight shows up with nothing earned...... Should I chase this up with QANTAS?

Give it a go and see what they say. I suspect the lack of formal announcement from QF on this is that everything isn't in place yet!

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

Please let me know how you go. Is it possibly because you made the booking prior to March 23rd (announcement of program)?

Thats a good pickup given the normal anypoint J fares are around 200000 each way, there are certainly some inconsistencies in the system to be taken advantage of, for instance I cannot book NAN-BNE with QF as a revenue flight online in J, and if I book it as a round trip it does not show all available flights, specifically it drops the BNE-MEL-SYD routings presumably because it believes nobody would wont to go the long way ()!

Yet using the points booking engine I can book NAN-BNE via SYD & MEL for 56000 all in, or 36000 points + $215, in return you get 6K of points back & 180SCs.
