Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

hasan27,

Good to hear it. How many points did each of these trips cost and consequently what was the value of the points :?:

I must admit they didnt come cheap. Only flights available to suit my dates - I paid approx 36,000 points for the flight from mel-sin-chennai each way...

Ta.

It obviously worked for you which is what is important.

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

I've noticed when you try to change an any seat award, it converts the fare into a dollar amount, somewhat lower than what an available fare would cost, even in J. i.e. J domestic sector SYD-BNE seems to be valued at $174 (probably due to it being booked in U award class - somewhat lower than the $582 or so it will cost if you want to change it).

So if you find yourself needing to change any seat award flights, it seems it works out better if you book the any seat awards you want to change to (providing they are available), then cancel the old ones, as changing won't allow you to do another any seat award for some reason and wants to charge you the cash difference to a paid fare, and only credit you the measely amount that QF seems to value your points at.

To me, this seems like a system limitation or a con. I will leave it to others to discuss which they think is more appropriate... they do state in the T&Cs that the points required do not necessarily equate to the same dollar amount for a fare, but you would think you could at least swap anyseat for anyseat when available at the same points level...

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

Just spoke to QF reservations and had a consultant that seemed to know what he was doing for once  (shock). ;)

It seems if you cancel, it uses the prevailing fare conditions (i.e. J - fully flexible, fully refundable, etc), and you will be credited points or points/$$ depending on how you paid. This may change if you have already flown a segment, in which case you should get the proportion of unused points or points/$$ for the remaining sectors.

Let's say you book an AnySeat in J which turns out to be booked in U class (same bucket as classic awards), if you want to change, regardless of fare conditions displayed as Business, the only way to change to another flight at same points level is if there is U class available - and the only way to do this is by phone. Being J, they shouldn't charge a service fee for this - but I'd be interested to see if this happens in reality... I certainly would debate this as it isn't stated in the conditions. A No Show on this should result in points credit, but don't think you can just jump on another flight in J, if there is no U class, you will need to buy a fare  . High tiered members might be able to waitlist for J, but it isn't specified anywhere.

For online changes, this is where it converts to the dollar value as a credit to a paid fare. In this case, depending on cancellation fees, it may still be better to book another AnySeat, then cancel if you really want it on points, as they will charge you the change fee for the lower whY classes plus a paid fare difference, less the poorly valued points in dollars. Not applicable in J - you can cancel and get all your points/$$ back apparently.

Clear as mud? I thought so.

The insight from the agent... "we are only doing this as Virgin have come out saying you can redeem on any flight, any time... so we had to follow... and if frequent flyer program gets sold, we want you all to burn your points" (I am paraphrasing, but that is the gist).

For the lower whY fares, that's a whole different story. Someone else may want to elaborate on these.

This is quite possibly the most confusing change to the program, however at least we get SCs on AnySeat awards which is generous, even when booking into award classes! :D

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

I just wnated to thank everyone for the thoughts/assistance/suggestions about cancelling anyseat awards. It prompted me to book my various legs separately just to get a bit of extra flexibility and also because it says that multidestination bookings can only be changed over the phone. As cancelling looks to be the better option then separate bookings is good for that as well.

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

Not sure if this is Qantas not updating their website, or something weird with a certain type of Anyseat booking, but I noted the following when searching for Anyseat Awards ex-HKG to LHR:

Bookings - Fare Types
Points and Status Credits are not earned when travelling on Qantas Any Seat Awards. Classed as Discount Economy when Status Credits are earned on this fare.

This rule is in all of the Fare Conditions shown on the page.

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

I spoke to QANTAS regarding my ANY SEAT booking I made on the 23/03 and flew on 02/04 which resulted in "0 Points & 0 Status Credits"

I was assured that points and SC's will be credited within 24 hours.
Win!!

Edit: They appeared in under 5 minutes!

60 SC's between now and September and I will attain PLATINUM.... aka WP

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

And all the easier with an Any Seat Award, congrats!

I am currently sitting in J lounge SYD awaiting an ASA flight to Melbourne. 19200 points each way so 3200 more than Classic, this flight will ensure I am WP through May 2011.

If you want to start shouting me awards now so I get to WP too, that’d be cool ;) :p

This rule is in all of the Fare Conditions shown on the page.

9.3 Earning Points for Air Travel
9.3.1 Subject to clauses 9.3.2 and 9.4, Points for air travel may be earned only for paid travel or Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Awards (excluding for the avoidance of doubt any Qantas & Partner Classic Award) on regular scheduled flights where a Qantas flight number (or the flight number of any oneworld Alliance Airline or Airline Partner not excluded under clause 9.4) is entered on the itinerary ('Eligible Flight').

See: Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions

Conditions of the program override anything mentioned on the fare restrictions - however it most likely just hasn't been updated yet as this only took effect on 23 March 2010.

Yeah that's what I am suspecting, although when you make a booking, you do *hope* that fare rules are correct! (ie, that they later don't change the cancellation fee etc ;) )

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

I know this has probably been answered... but just to confirm.

I'm looking at an award booking SYD-SIN-SYD in J. The "classic" points cost is 120,000 plus $229.50 taxes.

ASA price (on the same flights/dates) is 146,891 including taxes or 120,000 points plus $357.29 taxes (any idea why the taxes change?).

So in simple terms, I can book the ASA for the same points price as the classic, but earn 240 SC and 13,678 points? Seems like too good a deal to be true.

Taxes are really taxes/charges and these vary depending on fare class. Begs the question though as these will both book into U class...?!? Perhaps it's an SC earn premium ;-)

Too good to be true, but it would appear it is indeed true. Enjoy!

It is not taxes on the ASA. It is a cash co-payment. They give you the choice to pay with points or points and cash. In both cases you are pay for everything fare and taxes.

That's a great result hasan27! Just another option for quick SC's if required.

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

Slightly OT, but is anyone else having problems accessing the QFF Any Seat booking engine?

Everything else seems to work fine, but when searching for ASAs, a blank page appears.

Have tried on Firefox, Chrome and Safari, all with the same result.
