Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

Slightly OT, but is anyone else having problems accessing the QFF Any Seat booking engine?

Similar issues for me when I access the engine. Hopefully they'll get it sorted soon.

Everything else seems to work fine, but when searching for ASAs, a blank page appears.

Have tried on Firefox, Chrome and Safari, all with the same result.

I just tried and I get the same as you. Blank page.

Typical Murphy's Law - works fine until the very day I want to make an urgent booking.

Similar thing for classic awards earlier today, as well

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

Well it only took them a month to officially announce it!

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Awards may be booked for any available seat on any flight with a QF or JQ flight number and may include selected flights on other selected airlines for onwards travel.

Anyone seen any examples of this?

It does seem like they are suggesting other airlines not QF or JQ could eventually be bookable, but maybe this refers to just a simple codeshare.

Earn Status credits on Qantas flights and on eligible flights with Jetstar and other airline partners.^

^ Points and status credits may be earned on eligible flights on Qantas and partner airlines taken as Any Seat Awards. Some exclusions apply – see the Airline Earning Table.

Also noted that you can ODU on an Any Seat Award, but “some discounted fares are excluded”. Considering the economy ASA’s book into discount economy, it must surely mean from J to F international only?

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

I have given myself and interesting challenge to construct a mini RTW award using a combination of Any Seat Awards and Classic Awards.

First draft and I have managed this routing

SYD-MEL-LAX
BOS-LHR-ATH
ATH-LHR
LHR-HKG
HKG-SYD

So potentially 5 stopovers for a total cost of 151,000 QFF points and ~AUD1,200 in taxes and surcharges. The routing earns 110 SCs and ~39,000 QFF including Platinum bonus. So the next cost is ~112,000 QFF points. This leaves another ~28,000 QFF points to add some more destinations/stopovers to the routing.

A Oneworld award is 140,000 QFF points and ~1,000 in taxes and surcharges but a little more flexible than the simple routing I have constructed above.

Interesting indeed and appears too easy....

Yes I have just seen an example.

SYD-JFK Any Seat Award and was given option of

SYD-(QF)-LAX-(QF Codeshare)-JFK
SYD-(QF)-LAX-(AA)-JFK
SYD-(QF)-LAX-(UA)-JFK

Not cheap but if one has QFF points to burn then the option is there.

Qantas to introduce Frequent Flyer Pts and Status Credits on Anytime Awards

I know theres been mention of peoples desire for this to occur in the past, but just noted in today's Travel Daily it mentioned:

QANTAS has revamped its
frequent flyer program to now
offer the earning of points and
status credits on airfares
redeemed under its ‘Any Seat’
awards scheme.
Points are earned when
travelling on eligible Any Seat
Award flights with Qantas, Jetstar
and selected airline partners.
The revamp also allows
travelers to use points to upgrade
on Any Seat Award flights, with
the carrier also saying that a
wider range of Any Seat Awards
are now refundable on QF
international flights and QF and
Jetstar domestic and international
services.

Couldnt see it posted anywhere else, apologies if ive doubled up

I wonder if it’d then be possible to fly on NZ metal, as I’ve sometimes seen NZ flights mixed in with QF fares when flying to New Zealand and at least domestically in New Zealand, they would have a better offering than JQ. :D

Edit: Not the best deal ever!

For NZ domestic services? Possibly although I don't think QF is going to be as generous on offering cheap Any Seat Awards on other carriers as it is with it's own Any Seat Awards. Let's wait and see....

Earn Points on Any Seat Award Flights

Just received this in my inbox today:

Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Awards* are now more rewarding
than ever. When you use your Qantas Frequent Flyer points
to book and fly on eligible Any Seat Award flights, you
can now be rewarded with the same great Frequent Flyer
benefits you enjoy when you buy a ticket paid for in dollars.

Earning points and SC - looks like they want their FF to stick with them rather than jump ship. . . . .

Re: Earn Points on Any Seat Award Flights

effectively a discount on the purchase ie 40,000 pts to purchase then 2,000 pts earned ie 5% off.

The SC are a nice touch though.

Re: Earn Points on Any Seat Award Flights

If you search ASA or JASA you will see this subject well discussed elsewhere.

I'm assuming everyone else got the email regarding this.

I personally try to use the classic awards where possible so I don't think it would be much use to me. However I guess the chance to convert points to SCs if you're close to the next tier must be a good thing.

What do others think?

Recently the classic award to ADL ex BNE was more than the anypoints option, before you took into account additional points earned, I would recommend each planned use be carefully researched as to best vlaue for your scenario with regard actual cost as well as SC earning potential and the desire to retain/attain status.

Are you sure about this. I had the impression that the ASA book as the equivalent fare type as what is shown on during booking. So if you pick an ASA that is fully flexible then it would be upgradable. But then I haven't actually seen the fare class (i.e. Q, or M or Y or etc.)

ASAs are just like normal fares, they display as the same, that is red e deal, flexi etc, and just like real fares for the red e deals you have no idea of the upgradeability in a lot of cases unless you go for the flexisaver ASA. Unlike real fares, the J fare is often only double the rededeal!
