Earn Points and SCs with Any Seat Award Flights

Since these award flights confer status credits/points, do they count towards your 4 eligible flights? :D

By exact definition - Yes!

'Eligible Flight' has the meaning given in clause 9.3.1;
...
9.3.1 Subject to clauses 9.3.2 and 9.4, Points for air travel may be earned only for paid travel or Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Awards (excluding for the avoidance of doubt any Qantas & Partner Classic Award) on regular scheduled flights where a Qantas flight number (or the flight number of any oneworld Alliance Airline or Airline Partner not excluded under clause 9.4) is entered on the itinerary ('Eligible Flight'). ...

9.4 Points Are Not Earned on All Flights

9.4.1 Points are not earned for travel on:
(a) flights or booking classes that are not listed in or are excluded in the Airline Earning Table;
(b) infant fares (infant fares do not include infants travelling in their own paid seat);
(c) charter flights;
(d) freighter flights;
(e) free tickets or Qantas & Partner Classic Awards;
(f) travel industry rebated tickets;
(g) competition prize tickets;
(h) transport other than air transport unless specified by Qantas;
(i) tickets acquired at an auction;
(j) tickets which are subject to any specific provisions excluding the accumulation of Points; or
(k) Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award bookings originally made before 23 March 2010.

...

20.1.5 The travel required in each Membership Year to attain or retain Silver, Gold or Platinum status level must include a minimum of four Eligible Flight Segments where Qantas, QantasLink or a Jetstar Airline is the Marketing Carrier ...

My ASR also credited straight away, but still waiting on the Starclass

But I want to mention that when I called up with a question about ASR after they started earning points, the CSR tried about 4 times to convince me that ASR were bad value and that I should book a classic award. Makes me wonder if they have some instructions or something that might explain that they changed you to a classic award. ?

I think my problem stemmed from the fact that it was J and I changed flights. The dummy on the phone probably converted it from ASA to classic as part of the process. :mad:

HI, If i book an ASR for family members do the frequent flier points and status points get credited to my account or to the account of the person taking the flight?

I would assume it's the same as if you boughtt he tickets with cash - points go to the person flying not to the 1 account.

I think EK do allow the crediting of points to a single account, but usually at a lower rate than if credit to individual accounts.

Re: Earning Status Credits & Points on ANY SEAT bookings

Not sure if this is Qantas not updating their website, or something weird with a certain type of Anyseat booking, but I noted the following when searching for Anyseat Awards ex-HKG to LHR:

Bookings - Fare Types

This rule is in all of the Fare Conditions shown on the page.

Yeah that's what I am suspecting, although when you make a booking, you do *hope* that fare rules are correct! (ie, that they later don't change the cancellation fee etc ;) )
Did you end up booking this ASA out of HKG? Did the points and SC credit.

Just that I'm looking at a JASA out of SIN and the pop up fare conditions still have the same advice that points and SC are not earned.

You should be fine. See here, recently Qantas have significantly refined their earning table for QF flights:
Code:

Really makes it a no brainer when the figures look like that.

Makes me wonder how long this system will last before QF change a few things.

Yes but when you look at the availability there is very little at the prices that serfty is quoting.

As posted earlier, these prices are generally available when there is also award availability. So best booked at or shortly after T-353 days.

How do you calc those change fees. Was looking at a similar HKG-SYD example but fees not disclosed online.

I read the T&C's.
15.6 Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award - tickets cancellation & refunds

15.6.1 A refund of an Any Seat Award will only be made in accordance with the applicable Fare Conditions and these Terms and Conditions, and the following provisions:
...
(b) If a refund is requested prior to travel commencing, and the money paid to obtain the Any Seat Award is less than the cancellation fee (or refund fee) specified in the Fare Conditions, and the original Any Seat Award booking was not made on jetstar.com, then the refund of the Any Seat Award will be made by re-crediting only the Refundable Proportion of Points redeemed to the Member's account and refunding only the Refundable Proportion of the money paid to the Member's Accepted Payment Card.
I ascertained from this a pro-rata points cost.

The cancellation fee is $341, the $ cost was $202, the 11K is a pro-rata figure based on the total points cost if there was no co-payment and the difference between $341 and $202.

So for a HKG-SYD JASA.

From the Flight Booking Fare Conditions
Booking Changes
  • Changes can be made by calling your local Qantas office.
  • Before and after departure
    • Changes permitted, subject to a local service fee.
    • Additional charges and taxes may apply, plus any fare difference.
Cancellations (including no-show)
  • Before departure:
    • Refund permitted plus local service fee applies.

Based on:
Schedule of Fees

I am assuming there is no cancellationn fee for Business?

Would this be a correct assumption?

J fares have no cancel fees at present in Australia , not sure with JASAs if that will change in the future, I really dont see QF letting things stay at their present value!

The booking I refer to above was made under the Banner of "Business Saver"; I clicked the links and took a .pdf of the page. For this fare there is a listed $341 cancellation fee.

For a complete (current) list for these Asian fare fees, see here:

Thats a handy link, hope the business fees are not something that becomes more common, interesting that ex HKG dont have the change charges according to the link posted by moa999, but if you have a look at the business saver conditions when booking:

Booking Changes
Changes can be made by calling your local Qantas office.
Before and after departure
Changes permitted, subject to a local service fee.
Additional charges and taxes may apply, plus any fare difference.
Name Changes
Not permitted

This is of concern:

Cancellations (including no-show)
Before and after departure:
No refund

JASAs ex HKG may not be good value if you have to cancel!

From what I understand with QFF they don't get to book a profit on the points till they are used, so from the QF group's view I can see that any way they can get people to use their points faster means they can book the profit much quicker too.
