Hi All

I just did a quick calc and I'm going to get to about 2180~ sc's by the end of my calendar year...

The thing is partner gold is of no use to me. How much will 250sc's cost me if I did the best possible sc run from somewhere in australia? Just wondering if it's worth the push to get the 50k points...

I'm in the same boat, and am wondering the same thing.

I'm currently sitting on 2,100 SC's exactly, and my qual year ends this month. No use for partner gold, but perhaps the 50k points might be an option. I've got another 120 SCs already booked before the end of the month, so I'd need to add another 180 SCs sometime in the next 3 weeks or so.

Interested in hearing people's thoughts!

When i read the subject i laughed as i am in the same position too, by year ends June 30 so i still have a bit to go, from booked flights i will make around 2200 and i have quite a bit of time to go..

i could use partner gold, Mrs Fuzzy made silver a few weeks back, but 99% of the time she flys with me so is there any benifit?? so i too ask, is it worth going for 2400?

a few JASA's for work would get me there im thinking, and 50k points in my mind is the highest value, i thought about the 3 x car vouchers but that is only worth $300 compared to some good JASA's out of 50k points.

50000pts = approx $500 cash vouchers or up to $1500-2000 in flights. depending how short you are a good jasa may make up the difference for less than the cost. all depends on will you use the points??

personally I'm saving for 560k points for two J RTW for my honeymoon. Currently on 300k after a couple of award flights for my parents...

Not sure points + Pay is an option for this type of ticket... Will ask that question in the other thread...

I have no experience at looking for SC runs, so the only thing I quickly looked at was a J return SYD-PER on a classic award (160 SCs), but that was 72,000pts, so that obviously wasn't worthwhile ....

Since PG is useless unless you have a non-status partner (Pity QF aren't more liberal with their application of the term partner!), I'd be inclined to go for the 50,000 points.

A JASA won't take long!

They are - you can give it to anyone you like now ... but I don't have any rellies or friends who fly much.

My Mrs is non-status, but she flies rarely - and when she does it's always with me, so it's not a lot of use to her unfortunately.

Oh, I didn't know that!

In that case I'm sure there are a few non status AFF members who would like a present.

I kid, I kid! I'd still go for the 50,000 points, especially if you are <200SC away from the target. That's a good TT return from Perth, or to Singapore, on the classic awards and fairly easily attained on a JASA.

Is it worth using points to get points of the same nature?

Surely you lose more points than you gain?

I'd be paying for my sc run with money... if 50k was the goal

You have a good point. But I guess you could treat it as a discounted JASA or something, and take the extra SC as a push towards LTS or LTG.

It's not worth chasing if you have 250SC to go, I think you're right on that one. I'd just find someone to give PG to, a work colleague or friend or whatever.

100 SC can be had for around 14K of points + cash, so 200 SC required would cost 28K netting the 50K return, if you factor in the loyalty bonus its actually 2000 or so points lower than that in real terms. Of course you have to also factor in ancillary costs such as getting to the start of the run, possible accommodation etc but a little planning can often reduce these if you time the run to coincide with other travel.

Reached the 2400 SC mark last night,
Now have a selection box on "My Profile" page

so good to see they have made it all online.

Mel/Sin/Mel or Mel/Bkk/Mel on JQ Star Class is worth 240 SCs. Can be purchased for around $1,200 plus you get a F Lounge massage and lunch. If you need to fly to Mel then you get 10 SCs going there and 10 SCs coming back. Total SCs then 260.

50000 points can be had for a lot less than $1200+ depending on the offers around, I personally cannot see the value.

Just remember that classic awards don't net you any status credits

Last year I opted for the PG for my wife.

This year I opted for the 50k points.

My wife doesn't need the PG, and I don't need the points, so they are both of equal value to me...

Pity the new options came in at 2400 rather than 2100, to do 1200 SCs and get 50K is so so, then again you could go for the vouchers, I wonder if anyone will?

If anyone can’t get to 2400SC and doesn’t have a partner or friend to give PG to, I think my mum would make great use of it :p

When I calculate how much more SC that is than where I currently am, I just can’t fathom ever getting to such a level, let alone WP at the present time, but I think for those at 2100 and questioning whether to go to 2400, the big question is are those 50,000 points going to be worth it.

I’d imagine anyone at that level of SC can sign up to a new CC tomorrow (or life insurance) and do the minimum spend and get close to that amount of bonus points for a lot less than the SC run.

And I think that's the problem with it - it's not really much of an incentive to encourage you to get the extra SCs just for the 50K points, and certainly not the valet vouchers...

I wish QF gave some better incentives to get to over 2100 SCs a year. I'm testing the theory this year of the undocumented "WP+" level, so will see how we go.

Cheers,

J
