Hi all

Hoping to get some advice on how to best handle this situation with QFF.

Over the past week I have flown twice in JAL's domestic Class J, and once in their First Class. The flights have just been credited to my QFF statement at Premium Economy earn rates for the First Class flight, and Economy for the Class J flights, which would align with "Discount Economy plus First/Premium Surcharge" rates as shown in the fairer QF Partner earning table.

Boarding passes for the Class J flights show S28B+SS booking codes, which equates to JAL's Super Sakitoku Advanced Purchase fare (and what I assume is Premium surcharge). The F flight was F01C+FF which is the TOKUBIN1 Advanced Purchase Fare (and what I assume is First surcharge).

JAL don't make a clear distinction between "Economy" and "Discount Economy" bases in their fare rules - so how do Qantas determine this?

Had anyone been credited for JAL domestic after 1st December and had a different experience? What hope do I have of getting the status credits I was expecting (Economy + First/Premium rates) and where do I start?

All input appreciated.

Sounds like it is earning as per the earning table. That means little to no hope of getting the SC you expected. If you booked the flights before the changes were announced your could try approaching Qantas for an adjustment on the basis of them changing the earning without giving the required notice for the changes (90 days IIRC).

I suspect any advance purchase fare is going to be classed as discount.

Shame really - those JL fares were a good earn

Think medhead's suggestion on notice (I think JL and QR changes have only happened in the last month) is best chance

i have a feeling the last row of the below table from QFF may actually have some relevance to domestic fare basis code, giving a clue to what SC will be earnt (the OP had S and F fare basic codes respectively that earnt at Economy and First rates):

Anecdotally it seems any Sakitoku (28 day+ adv purch) domestic fare will be classed as Discount Economy by QF (regardless of whether or not a Class J upgrade was taken) and any Tokubin (1-7 day adv purch) domestic fare may be classed as Economy/Premium Economy or First depending on cabin class purchased.

I have seen mention that Yokoso Oneworld discount fares may be considered as fare basis Y so could be worthwhile for QF SC earning purposes at Flexible Economy rates (eg ITM-OKA would yield 30 SC for 10,800jpy or roughly 4.73/SC). http://jalagency.com/fares/2016_JPNDOMFARES-5.pdf

EDIT: Happy to see this post taken me to 4,000 posts :):):)

I flew HND-KIX vv in June this year with JAL on a full J ticket in both directions. Ticket was issued 3 weeks in advance of travel. Credited to QFF as Premium Economy with 20 SCs for each sector.

I really needed to check this thread before I booked a domestic flight in Japan for later this year. I was happy to even receive PE SC-rates, but I'm not so happy now reading that I may earn far less than even that.

My biggest gripe right now is that I have no way of working out what fare class I am booked into because the JAL website is so poor at displaying any useful information. Does anyone have some tips on how I can find out what I'll be earning in advance?

I booked a Super SAKITOKU Advanced Purchase Fare(Class J), however I got it for a really good price and I can see flexible tickets for 3x the price or more. Regardless, I'm looking forward to a day in Okinawa!

Pretty sure per yohy?! post it will be Discount Economy plus Premium Surcharge - and thus full Economy for crediting purposes.

I would have been happier with Flexible Economy, but expected as much ;)

Such a shame that it credits in such a way, guess I'll just have to enjoy the warmer weather and day trip instead of feeling sad about the reduction in SC! I'll also need to look into booking one final flight for chicka as that was meant to get her to QF PS, and she'll now be short!

We have a few internal flights booked with Japan Air (JAL) & partner airline JTA (Japan Transocean Air). Japan Air is a M & W class booking, while JTA is a W class booking.

Qantas doesn't wish to come to the table in regards to earning points and/or sc, so I was wondering what the best ff program would be to link up to these flights?

I've just tried searching, but can't find anything. AA is also out for domestic Japanese flights.

I credited to AA but that was two years ago. If you are unlikely to get much in the way of points in any other program you may as well credit to your main one that would earn, albeit little.
