I understand the new Qantas 747-400 3 Class fitout is now in operation.
Assuming Qantas do not change planes on me I will be flying on it in both J & PE early next year.

I am looking for pictures & opinions as to what it is like?

The first aircraft is still in the hanger getting the upgrade. It will be finished next month then begin flying BNE-LAX-BNE 3 times a week.

Sorry about that. I saw on Qantas Source about the 3 Class 747 swap on 18 September and assumed it was one with the new fitout.

Seems like a lot of J seating considering that they have been frequently allocating J seating to Y+ and Y+ seating to Y... I was almost thinking that they where going to make zone A and UD J seating, zone B as Y+ and everywhere else as Y to prevent giving better seats to those who have not paid for them.

I wouldnt be happy with seats 5-8E:evil:, unless of course, op-upgraded from Y, Y+;)

5B looks the go.

Would be very nice to be seated alone when travelling solo.

the qantas source 'rumours' seatmap is slighty incorrect...J/C lavs will be located at doors 2 crossover behind last row J/C DEF seats..also there will be no galley at doors 1 crossover either...effectively zone A will flow openly into zone B...there are also other slight differences around the door 2 galley/lav area and doors 4 and doors 5.. sorry i cant load a pic of the actual layout on here to show you..(im sure someone else will do it soon though!)

Makes sense with the Zone A/B flow through as there was really not enough room to have it closed off, even with a row less.

The Skybed Mk II has an 80", same as for the removed First Class seats, but with a 2x2 config. there's no opportunity to overlap.

The one I can see is like this;

Does that mean only 1 toilet upstairs now? That's a nuisance.

Also, it looks like a significant reduction per seat in number of toilets for downstairs J also.

a reduction..sadly..yes..the 'pacific' configured 744 has 4lavs/66 JCpax..the 'kangaroo' configured has 4lavs/52pax... whereas the 'new' config will be 3lavs/58pax...but there is an 'overflow' lav.(please excuse the pun!!!) that J/C can use just next to the J/C bar area at door L2..that is also utilised by premium Y/C pax...its called 'creative lav usage'...

Yes that is nuisance, there are 4 less seats but still 1 toilet is not enough I think...

New 3 class seat map posted on FT:

The seat map as posted bears out under the radar's comments:

cough (yes another 'pardon the pun').
I like to select upstairs due to better toilet / seat ratio.
Where it is needed is in that last 1 hr before landing or as we get woken up. Even in J there are often lines as people change out of their PJs and brush teeh, comb hair and do god-knows-what in there that seems to take for ever at times.

Unsure if anyone here has exact dates this new seating plane will be rolling out in Oct. Outbound qf15 on 15/10 and return qf16 on 15/11. at moment have seat 4e booked. if new seating comes in, this seat will be gone.
cheers
