So is it safe to assume that every Qf15 bne-lax will have new j product by June next year?

What other 744 routes are going to receive the new product? Hopefully syd-hkg...

The 744ER routes are the main ones to get this, so aside from BNE/LAX, look for DFW and SCL.

BNE/LAX was promoted as the first rout to get these.

Does that mean only 1 toilet upstairs now? That's a nuisance.

Also, it looks like a significant reduction per seat in number of toilets for downstairs J also.

Looks like there's two toilets upstairs near the coughpit door (one marked T and the other B)...?

As there is on every 744...it's just that the one marked T is on the other side of the door.

Don't wish to doubt those with more inside knowledge, but seems really surprising to have a toilet just for flight crew....

Why? The 747 has had separate toilets for the pilots for decades

The A380 also has a separate toilet for the pilots although it is not located in the flight deck, it is to the left before the flight deck door.

The QF A380 has a privacy door to hide the flight crew rest and the toilet. EK have a rope to stop passengers going up to use it.

and all going to plan...all 9 744s are to be refitted by oct2012.. with a timeline mentioned by qf of roughly 6weeks per a/c for each refit.. so there could be even 3 a/c in service by new year!... but even 1day is a long time in the airline business.. so in 1yr, anything can happen! just being realistic

My flights to FRA don't seem to be refitted anytime soon :-(

OEG starts service in the new config next Friday ex BNE.

I'm flying on the sat., ef still showing four rows in forward cabin. I hope so, I have 4e. when i booked it was first class cabin, then went to 20 seats.

I can see how they have made room for the longer beds - by removing toliets! If you look at the seat maps on the other 747 aircraft, there used to be 4 toilets in the same areas on the main deck and 2 on the upper-deck. Now only 2 dunnies for 40 JC on the main deck and only 1 for the upper-deck  Gonna take a while for everyone to change into their PJ's after take off! And not to mentioned the before landing change back rush at the other end ;)

That is why I change before take-off and when I wake up prior to landing :D

Just trying to reopen this topic as the first post was to early. Now that the plane has been flying for a few weeks has anybody flown on it? What are your thoughts on the upgrade? Have you got any photos you can share? I am most interested in finding out the best PE seats as I will be flying on this plane in Feb 2012.

we flew VH OEG back from LAX to BNE last friday in PE cabin. Seats are nice and new. don't seem that much different. entertainment screen is much better. every PE seat has the screen in the arm rest along with table. correct on the discussions about the toilets - there are fewer and the queues were a bit longer. overhead bins would fit heaps of stuff in them. PE passengers were informed that there is a refreshment bar down the back of the plane for their use - i didn't bother with that as we were asleep most of the way back. dedicated PE toilet (1 only). we were in 34 A & B I think (whatever the bulk head row is on that side of the plane anyway)

HTH.

Looking forward to further updates to this thread. I currently have seat 5b booked for a feb trip as the solo seat looks appealing but am really unsure if I should just stick with the upper deck exit row.

I paxed yesterday, and quite a number of people had changed into the PJs, as well as removing their shoes, prior to take off. My FO commented (almost reading my mind) that it didn't seem a very good idea if getting out and running away became a priority.

Very true, the material of the PJs wouldn't protect a lot when going down the slide. I do keep my shoes on though, just in case.
