I posted recently about our trip to New York - we are flying out tomorrow. We booked a business class fare on a major discount, months and months ago. Anyway I put in for an upgrade to first class for MEL-LAX using points. I'm a lowly silver member so really didn't expect it to come through but this morning I got the magic text message.

I'm excited but a bit scared - I want to make the most of it because it will probably be a loooong time before I fly first class again. We're in 4F and 4K so sort of next to each other. Could have selected 4A and 5A.

Anyway, hope this doesn't come across as boasting :) but this is pretty exciting for this not-so-frequent flyer.

Great result - you should also get a call from the F kounge to see if you want to pre-book a spa treatment.

Don't want to spoil it but I don't think upgrades get the call. At least mine haven't. But if you are early to the Flounge you can try for a vacancy.

Even confirmed bookings don't always receive a call. As the pax is now booked in F, he and his pax are entitled to prebook spa treatments. Just call the lounge number from the website.

Sadly we won't have much time to enjoy the Flounge - arrive from CBR 7:50 depart MEL 9:35.

Another reason it would have been good to have flown to MEL tonight! Live and learn :)

Hi Mardi

Fantastic :)
Definitely call to book if they haven't called you.
I would also grab 4A and 5A if available, you can dine together in one suite and both still have a nice window seat.
Enjoy :D

I got the call for my SYD-HKG flight.

Ahh yes. Maybe with the newer, more early upgrades they have a better chance to call you? I don't think mine cleared until less than 24 hours before.

Unfortunately, you might not be able to get a lengthy spa treatment. The spa opens at 9am, and boarding starts around that time as well...

I had a booking in F, made 3 months prior. No call was made so I called the lounge at 3PM the day before. With other reservations, it has been hit and miss.

Great news! I'd call it karma! Enjoy the F lounge (up the escalator near Gate 9 by the way), as long as your flight is on time, hopefully you'll manage a quick brekky with champagne - a great start to a trip! And enjoy the F flight on the plane too.

Oh, and the mail arrived OK last week - ta!

Give them a call the staff there will accommodate you really well :) if your so inclined why not organize a first host so you don't have to lift your bags ;) Reserve a table for breakfast as well.

Turn up at CBR airport as early as you possibly can and ask to be put on the earliest flight available.
Worst case scenario you spend a little longer in the CBR J-Lounge, best case scenario, you get on the first flight out and have time to enjoy the F-Lounge properly.

If I remember the correct thread they are on the earliest flight - they tried to change to day before but the answer was no. Great that you got the upgrade enjoy the flight and your travels. :)

That's right, we are on the earliest flight and tried to move to the night before (tonight) but they wanted to charge a fee of about $600.

We will have to RLF from the CBR plane (2A and 2C so off quickly hopefully) through the formalities and into the lounge :)

If you phone up you can get the degustation menu too, or is that not for awards or LAX or?

If I was in F, that's how I'd make the most of it.


