Hi,

I have just reached gold and have 2 months to get an extra 700sc to make it to platinum.

One of the benefits of WP is access to business lounge. However from July, I will be flying SYD-PER weekly. My understanding is that there is no J lounge in Perth.

Is it really worth the extra money for J seat every week for the next 2 months? Or should I just stick to gold for this year?

Would love to get double Sc offer now! Come on Red Roo.... You can do that for such a loyal customer.

Only you can determine the worth, however the extra points haul for being WP for each of those commutes will add up to a nice bonus on its own.

If you are commuting SYD-PER for a long period then I would go for it.

Not sure I would stump up for J to achieve....if you have sufficient points I would look at doing 1 or 2 JASA. We just did a JASA BNE-SYD-AKL-MEL-SYD (long w'end) for $250 & 88,000 points......earn was 260SC & around 10,500 points.

I value WP:-
Flounge access throughout the OW network, this is the No 1 benefit to me as I travel OS a few times a year.......also J lounge & QP.
The occasional upgrade
Bonus point earn

Little difference between the QP and the Business Lounge so not much benefit there if you mainly fly domestic. On the other hand there is an enormous difference between the International business lounge and the Flounge so WP has more benefit for those that fly internationally.

If you're doing SYD-PER weekly, you're going to be WP in time for your next year.

1400 SC's to get it, and i'll assume discount whY for the SYD-PER-SYD sectors.

20SC's per sector (40 per return trip).

That means you need 35 return trips for WP. If you're still 700SC's short, and you're not intending on doing anything but this commute, i'd probably just leave it at SG and let WP flow in around 35 weeks time.

Of course if you're going to do semi-regular international travel from SYD or MEL, then the F lounge may be worth it.

As the old saying goes every time someone asks this question 'only you can say if it's of value to you' as 700SC's don't come cheap in AU, regardless of doing it via JASA's or paid fares (in the LOTFAP however... ;)).

If it was me I would not spend extra money just to get access to the business lounge. There is not that much difference in value between the 2 lounges.

Now if factoring in other benefits as well then it is a different story....

I'm in the same boat, just got SG @ 760 SC with requal end of May...

I fly approx every week, but may miss random weeks, so I'm definently up for a minimum of 1 JASA From Per to Syd... via ADL of course!

If you are not traveling overseas much I think DJ/VA Platinum offers more than QF WP. I like the four complimentary upgrades for starters.

Personally, if you don't travel overseas, WP isn't worth it.

I agree with this. Had a quick check and difference in miles earning between SG and WP on a SYD PER return is 1020 points. (If you do this weekly it ads up but if you look at the cost I'm not sure it is worth it)

I can certainly see and understand this point of view, but actually in some circumstances I disagree quite strongly.
As a city pair road warrior, MEL/SYD/MEL it actually holds a lot of value in things such as guaranteed seat, changing of unchangeable flights etc etc.

I guess it is different things to different people, at least with the calculator you can stick in your own variables and get an answer that suits you and your requirements.

The Dom J lounge argument would be more palatable if we had one in PER :(

Inputs can be sourced on these decisions however you're the only person that can determine value. The extra SC's would also include 1, possibly 2, extra 8,000 FFPoint parcels. That may add 1/4 of a tick in the "Go for it" column.

It may well be worth it if you are also commuting domestically.

The main benefits are not just the First class lounge and more points.

The premium desk is good but even as a SG I had flights changed and very good service. The only difference I noticed when getting to WP is that the phone was answered quicker, could be that I am an easy customer.

I don't get to change flights that often and even when I ask the change rate is very hit and miss on el cheapo tickets.

My biggest gain has been in luggage allowances, especially when the piece system was introduced recently, and seats although that benefit seems to have disappeared with the changes for Platinum One. What appears to be happening is Platinum Ones are pre-allocating premium seating (read row 4 or row 23 on 767) and upgrading to business class very late in the check-in process and then someone with very little status is getting these premium seats.

Oh well. Need to learn to adapt and try and get smarter....

I've got 10 SCs to secure Gold, again. I've never got close to Platinum but do have the double SCs offer...810 SCs needed (405x2). I have 5 weeks to go the anniversary date. Is there easy JASA itinerary? Staying overnight is not a problem. Prefer weekend flights.

how about the shadow? or thats gone?
I am not convinced the shadow has been there for me but some people seem to still wear by it.

I think the introduction of Platinum One has forced further 'enhancements' to Vanilla Platinum benefits....
