Platinum- is it worth it for me?

Thank you for your helpful replies.

I have jumped in and booked a few Jasa. Will therefore be platinum by the 31st May!!!

Just with JASA. I have made a simulation of a cancellation and it doesn't seem like they actually refund the points. They only offer a credit voucher.

Does this need to be done on the phone to get a full points refund?

Biggest bonus for me is F lounge when going overseas.

Mind you if you want something on a flight and the FA is a helpful one you will probably get it.

I was in Econ cabin and they bought me down a J meal,

I can certainly see and understand this point of view, but actually in some circumstances I disagree quite strongly.
As a city pair road warrior, MEL/SYD/MEL it actually holds a lot of value in things such as guaranteed seat, changing of unchangeable flights etc etc.

I guess it is different things to different people, at least with the calculator you can stick in your own variables and get an answer that suits you and your requirements.

Changing of unchangeable flights (ie, non flexible fares) is not a benefit of any QF tier, except perhaps CL.

Whilst QF have been known to be flexible, it's always at their discretion (and when it suits them; I have it on good authority that at peak hour they don't actually sell a 'flight' of seats from a yield management view, rather the peak period is 'one flight' with 'lots of seats'. This will then have the result of the agents being more flexible to move people around, but it's not a given they will change you). As for being a road warrior on andy of the golden triangle routes, the seats are much of a muchness, unless you select an exit row. Personally I just take something forward aisle, as the plays are always jam packed anyway, like my 0800 from MEL was this morning).

With the recent de-valuation of WP, i'd have to agree with Leumas here. If you don't travel overseas, the benefits really aren't there (points are so easy to get so the extra 1k is not really worth factoring in IMHO).

Of course, YMMV and as I mentioned, only you can tell if it's worth it for you :)

I've heard the same thing too. Having said that I have only been knocked back once to leave earlier.

Personally, if you don't travel overseas, WP isn't worth it.

agree 100%, can not really see the value in WP for Australian travelers, and to be honest if you are only ever going overseas once a year, not even then, I became WP because I have to make at least 10 self funded trips to the USA a year, therefore extra points, FLounges, dedicated booking line, usually a shadow seat sitting in Y usually where I like, more realistic chance of upgrade etc.

But is P1 worth it to me, probably not, as I am located in the country areas, and P1 seems a little city centric will all the perks and events that they have.

I'd go further and say the P1 perks and events are SYD & MEL centric. Have there been any P1 events outside of those two cities?

Correct, it is a real disincentive for me to strive for the P1, in fact I could be Virgin WP for less SCs, and in my situation, perhaps better to play the two airlines against each other to find the best deals and perks for me.

thats annoying, i was hoping to meet the shadow later this year............
