Qantas Boeing 787-9 premium economy seat

That looks really tight. 38" isn't revolutionary or class leading. I think QF missed an opportunity here.
 
Also imo each seat should get its own AC power outlet. Having to share a power outlet doesn't feel premium.

Also, have confirmed the loo arrangements on the Qantas Boeing 787: of the three lavs in the business class cabin, only the WC at the very front will be solely for J flyers; the two lavs at the rear of the main business class cabin will be shared between business class and premium economy passengers.

That's great for PE passengers. Terrible for the business passengers especially those just in front of the PE passengers.
 
well... the footrest allowing you to support the back of your legs (feet forward of the legrest) is a good idea!

it sort of starts turning the seat into an angled lie flat. I think there is room to grow this concept over the years if airlines decide to increase seat pitch.
 
The issue will remain the seat in front reclining into the space of the one behind.

I'm not convinced this is as "revolutionary" as Qantas have been teasing in the build up.

They also very carefully appear to have no shots of the set of 3 (just the pair of 2).

Also, did anyone say new 737 J seat.....

With the seat moving fowards, the loss of space for the window seat to get out looks to be a real problem. However, without putting the footrest on the seat (rather than on the seat infront), means the design demands a shorter seat pitch or it would be too far away.

It is looking very tight though.

Wonder what they've done for the front row?

They made some comment about being flexible with quantity of PE seats, I wonder if they expect to replace the back rows of J with more PE going forwards, solving the problem of toilet being through a number of J seats...
 
The footrest bit looks pretty good.

Biggest issue is middle/window seat pax getting out when the aisles in front is reclined. My experience in PE is the person just grabs the seat in front as leverage which is extremely annoying, especially when sleeping!

Noting in the AusBT article that the USB port in the seat back only supplies 0.5A while the one in the armrest supplies 2A. Why not make both supply 2A? Or at least 1A in the seat back one. More likely to leave your device plugged in there while sleeping to charge.

Would not want to be seated at the back of J. I'd imagine traffic through the curtain area would be really annoying.
 
And all the news.com's of this world are just trotting out the Qantas editorial. GT as well. Very different to the opinion of ausbt.

Yep, the AUSBT article is informative and a good review. The other news sites are just prepared things. Perhaps AUSBT was given a pre viewing of the product before the rest? Or you think everyone got the same viewing and the other news agencies just didnt bother to do the detail that AUSBT did?

So much for the "J is the new F and W is the new J" narrative.

Not sure who started that narrative, but it wasn't the airlines!
In any case, the seats look not too unlike J used to be, back before there was a Skybed.

Well yes, that's the point. People seem to focus on the word premium and overlook the word economy. QF won't do anything that could possibly cannibalise demand for J. There must always be an appreciable leap between the offerings in those two cabins.

AusBT is a specialist travel publication. The others are generalists. The specialist title will always have a more detailed review.
