Apologies if this has been asked recently, I tried a search and wasn't able to find a recent response.

I've been looking for Jetstar or Qantas domestic flights from Sydney T1 (International) ... does anyone know if there still are any?

Jetstar does about 3 flights a year SYD-BNE before going onto either DPS or HNL. The most recent was on 10th Jan. They're a great way to access the Flounge if you're WP, but there is no duty free allowed. If you've got luggage then you can only check-in <3hrs, but if you are HLO then you should be able to check-in at anytime that day.

The difficulty is finding a simple way of searching for these occasional flights. The only methods I know are slow and tedious.

I use ITA Matrix. Search for JQ flights from SYD to MEL, OOL, BNE and CNS, and select "business class or higher". The only flights that will show are 787 flights departing from the international terminal, as no other Jetstar flights on these routes have business class.

You can search for flights a month at a time.

Would it be too much to ask, if any are coming up?;)

This is what a quick search brought up:

Departing Sydney:
Sundays on 5, 12 & 19 February: JQ25 SYD 09:00 - CNS 10:55
Sundays from 26 February to 19 March: JQ7 SYD 09:00 - MEL 10:30

Departing Melbourne:
Most Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays (for at least the next few months): JQ57 MEL 14:45 - BNE 15:55
Wednesday 1 February and various other Wednesdays from 29 March: JQ15 MEL 08:10 - CNS 10:30

And for anyone hoping to try out QF's new BNE lounge, flights departing Brisbane:
Most Thursdays (for at least the next few months), plus Mondays from 27 February onwards: JQ58 BNE 08:50 - MEL 12:15

There are also some early morning flights on the CNS-MEL route available.

Don't forget you can add "JQ / Aircraft type:787" (without quotes) to the advanced routing codes in the ITA search to only show B787.

JQ58 BNE/SYD ops Mon & Sat & JQ57 SYD/BNE ops Tue & Sun. ISTR that the international B788 operated flights say "Dreamliner" so makes obvious when looking at an availability display with several flights.

Thanks heaps for that! :)

Does Qantas definitely have no flights like this any more?
Yes ... I was hoping to have a long boozy lunch, but those Sydney JQ flights leave at 9am ... ooh, except JQ57, that's 3pm - perfick! :D

QFs last tag flight was ages ago.
Also note that the JQ flights are the first thing to go if they have scheduling issues and need to catch up time, and you get dumped to a domestic flight

It was just a general question, the better half will be Platinum in April for what's likely to be the only time in our lives, so experiencing the First Class lounge in Sydney will be swaying any holiday/travel plans 'til her membership-anniversary the year after. :)

However, when ozbeachbabe referenced JQ57 & JQ58, I had a quick squizz at the Qantas booking pages for this coming weekend (just to have a look - and because the Jetstar site is a dog's breakfast by comparison), the flights were there. As it's only relevant to us later in the year, when I got home from work I started looking around mid-year ... and those flights aren't there, although there are other JQ flights. Most likely they've been ditched, probably cheaper for Jetstar to make people transit from an existing domestic flight in Brisbane than fly a 'plane all the way from Sydney.

JQ57 is ex Melb according to the post upthread.

Aye, but it must change; only went looking because ozbeachbabe was saying it was ex-Sydney.

So it seems THIS Sunday it's ex-Sydney (I just checked, tickets still for sale), but moving the date forward by a week at a time for 7 weeks I can't find another instance where it is. So either they move it around in a way that looks like a random pattern to us (ie. to meet maintenance schedules or getting aircraft to the right places), or it's no longer flying outta Sydney at all.

But, as was said in the most recent thread I could find on this topic, apparently these flights usually don't appear in the schedule until between 1 & 4 weeks of their date.

JQs schedule is somewhat random. These flights seem to come and go quickly, sometimes only a week or two at a time

I can see the JQ57 ex SYD for Sunday now. I was looking for J / Dreamliner flights on J*.com before, but nothing leapt out. The QF website is a bit easier to spot the JQi flight numbers. Funny, I usually consider JQ options in my QF flights searches an annoyance.

Are JQ still selling J seats on domestic legs?

I believe so. You can earn Business points & status credits too with a max bundle.
Yes, it's been on my 'To Do' list should I ever needed a couple of extra SCs - as well as a cheeky FL visit on a cheap whY fare. So far haven't done neither.

As an aside, many years ago, QF used to have a regular 767 SYD-CNS Int flight that went on to Japan. I did it several times as a domestic leg for work travel. The in flight service was noticeably different to the regular domestic equivalent. ie Bubbles with a hot Breaky! Alas, the last time I did it was before the 1st lounge existed and me having WP...

As others have mentioned these positioning flights are "use at own risk" IMHO as they can be delayed or cancelled and you can find yourself subbed onto a regular 320 without recourse. I would not use one with any kind of specific timeframe (eg: that MEL-BNE flight has fantastic timings but in no way would I rely on it)

just my 2 cents.

I have booked myself on JQ 7 from SYD to MEL in early March. Fingers the flight will go ahead.

Alas no F lounge for me (unless another AFFer happens to be in SYD on the morning of the 12th and happy to guest me in :D) but still good to have access to the better Intl J Lounge compared to the QP.

How long beforehand do they tend to be cancelled?
Are we talking half an hour, so you're already in the international terminal & have already downed your Moet?
