Qantas
Platinum
I just arrived on QF9 in J and I'm Qantas Platinum. Both lounge entry staff said I have no access in Singapore. The lounge they say is only for departing passengers. I have a couple of hours to kill before my transit hotel booking. Not very impressed.

Has the policy changed?

Yes, it changed back when ATA was removed.
Arrival access has since been domestic only.

Aren't they technically correct? I thought if they let you in to the lounge upon arrival, it was done on a goodwill basis, not because they had to.

From what I can see online, they are correct.

Arrivals access looks limited to domestic lounges.

Just checked Qantas.com and it seems it has. No arrival access for international Qantas Clubs. Strange logic. They let me in anyway but just for goodwill.

I know it's being picky, but the access policy at international longes says the next flight must be on the same day. Works in Singapore mostly I suppose but what if you arrived at 11pm then departed at 2am? Shouldn't it read "or connecting to a Qantas/oneworld/Jetstar flight? I'm actually departing on the next connecting Jetstar flight. But access was denied.

Edit: I found this on Qantas.com for platinum access at international lounges

"Next onward flight must be on a Qantas, Jetstar Airlines[SUP]+[/SUP] or oneworld flight number.[SUP]#
[/SUP]One guest allowed and must be travelling with the member"

No mention there of same day departure requirement. The staff here still said no.

If you're connecting to 3K then you definitely should have access:

Next onward flight must be on a Qantas, Jetstar Airlines[SUP]+[/SUP] or oneworld flight number.#
One guest allowed and must be travelling with the member.
[SUP]+[/SUP] Jetstar Airlines refers to Jetstar (JQ), Jetstar Asia (3K) and Valuair (VF).

Absurd in any case, whatever the 'rule" book says not to allow you access - IMO - with your status & JQ flight - overly pedantic & protective of their 'hallowed piece of space"
Certainly - not in their best interest to deny access.. Stupendous ideals :-|
Puts the alternate carriers in a more welcoming light..

Showed them the web page, they still said no. Must be a same day departure. They close here at midnight anyway. I just wanted a couple of hours before the transit hotel.

Complicated policies!

Did the staff know you had an onward JQ booking? If you had a boarding pass, then you will definitely be allowed in. Could be wrong but QF to 3K boarding passes can be obtained at the airside transfer desk

I suspect here is your answer.

Presumably they will welcome you tomorrow when the lounge opens again and you have your onwards JQ ticket in hand.

Seriously, if this is how a Plat gets treated then I have no incentive as a Bronze to travel QF at all.

Yes they did. They said the flight had to be the same day. Mine is actually tomorrow morning. But it is the quickest connection.

On my reading of the T&Cs they are still incorrect, maybe confusing it with access For OWEs where there is a "same day" requirement:

Next onward flight that day must be on a oneworld operated and marketed flight[SUP]#[/SUP].

This is not good behaviour on qantas's part.

Cathay pacific let me into their arrivals lounge on last trip to hong long and I was travelling in economy class.

Red roo are you there?

So many rules and so many $$$ spent and you get so little in return for your loyalty really. There is a palpable lack of charm and goodwill in all of this lately. It all just feels mechanical.

The # can only apply to one world airlines based on the wording. No doubt clarifying that one world codeshare on non oneworld airlines don't count. It certainly can't apply to the Jetstar part of that list. More interesting would be the +, which would apply to the OP.

Sent from the Throne

Seems to be a lot of gnashing of teeth here.... I actually think QF was right in denying the OP but good to see that the let him in anyway as an act of goodwill
I think the OP's situation is fairly rare... but lets lay out some facts.

OP Arrived QF9 Scheduled 2125
(also arriving around this time BA12, BA16, QF5, QF1, QF71 - which then all depart before 2359)
Lounge Hours are 1500 to 2359 (I thought the Business one used to open at 6am as I am sure I have used it before a early morning JQ flight 2 yrs ago- maybe changed)... It has been reported on this board that this lounge is packed to the rafters between 2100 and 2400 -- so one would expect them to be tough on access - particularly whilst renovations are going on.
and now some guesses:
OP had booked himself in a transit hotel (presumably from 2400-0600)
OP on a Jetstar flight (presumably one of the flights from 0600-0800)

The Singapore lounge is not an arrivals lounge, the only arrivals lounges in oneworld are at HKG, LHR T3 and LHR T5 - all of which have different policies depending on airline flown, class and status.

The OP was trying to access the lounge from 2200-2359.. Then go to transit hotel, then out to checkin for his flight... Now normally (if all the flights are on time) I suspect the lounges effectively close at 2300/2330 (last flight being QF1) and the staff are trying to clean up from 2300 onwards.

Once the OP checks in for his JQ flight (3 hrs before), and comes back airside he will not have access (the lounge will be closed)...
The next onward flight has to implicitly have a same day clause, otherwise say on a QF9-QF9 with 3 days break in SIN, you could claim lounge access on the basis of next onward flight.

---

Now a more interesting scenario would be if the OP was flying on 3K763 to Manilla/Osaka which is an 0215 departure - assuming you went out airside and checked in at 1115 (albeit they can often let you do it earlier in SIN), would you have lounge access until the 2359 closure.

Almost right.

But the Singapore lounge is actually a Qantas Club and I should have at least had departure access under the Qantas Club rules. Which state that the next onward flight can be Jetstar.

You can "check-in" on line with Jetstar (48 hours before) and there was no need for me to go land side at all. And if it's the next onward connection possible (and less than 24 hours) shouldn't it be OK? No it isn't say the Singapore lounge staff - it must be "same day".

Back in Singapore with a similar connection (meaning next departure is tomorrow morning) but with SQ this time. Was warmly welcomed into the T3 SilverKris lounge. And I'll go to the transit hotel again for most of the time. But what a difference! And the lounge is vastly better than the QF lounges too (ok I know they are being upgraded). Qantas ...on lounge access... No-one can follow your rules - not even the lounge staff.
