Qantas Vodafone tie up

That explains the problems with the QF call centre

Actually vodafone has improved significantly and now has very good service and coverage, so this couldn't account for the habitual problems with the QF call centre.

That's not a very attractive serve of points in exchange for being locked in to a 24-month contract... Especially when Vodafone themselves offer several other plans that don't require that long a commitment.

Would've thought Telstra a more natural fit with Qantas too.

I don't think it is attractive. 1 set of points for 24 months.. compared to per dollar spent.. I wont join this plan..

Yikes Vodafone ..... at least it will cut down on the calls to Qantas call center

IMO National carrier should be with a telco carrier that can provide services national, not just capital cities an regional towns

Precisely.

I mean Telstra even features in QF's new safety video (watch the scene where the person is putting their phone into flight mode)

Improved maybe, but pay the extra $2 and go with the best coverage.

Agree, look at the coverage map for Vodafone. Poor to say the least and not going to work for me.

Vodafone's problems are not just coverage but lousy call quality and high dropout rates within the 'covered' areas!

Anything less than 100,000 QFF points over 24 months wouldn't be enough for me to consider changing telcos.

I just received the email. I note it is only for more expensive plans too. I'm already with Vodafone (better than Optus btw, for all you bashers) and was hoping it would kick in automatically for $ spend. This is a rather disappointing version of what Optus offered, which benefitted Mrs_O when it existed.

I think the amount of points on offer reflects the cost to Vodafone of the QFF points.

With the credit card interchange rate change coming soon, I think QFF are going to feel the squeeze on how much they can charge for a point as the banks will stop buying so many or just stop buying fullstop.

Have been using Vodafone for more than 10 years and never had an issue. I utilize the $5.00 International roaming and have found it to be excellent. Had a work phone that was on optus and had a hell of a lot more issues than with Vodafone. Guess I have been lucky. :D

Have always found Telstra to be expensive and less flexible with its plan and hopeless when it comes to overseas roaming.

I am certainly considering this.

I use vodafone as well, the $5 per day roaming (now free for use in NZ) in 50 countries is better than either Optus or Telstra offer. I have no issues with vodafone, happy customer.

Much better I'd say. But most people will simply grumble because the tie up doesn't suit them. It's often difficult to convince dinosaurs that something is good for them - they much prefer to stick to their known ways.

Except they keep changing their plans and now if I change off my current plan, I can't go back to it as it no longer exists. The new plans don't do what I need.

I used to use a prepaid plan at home, then changed to post pay on a month to month plan while I was overseas on holiday. Then they got rid of month to month post pay and added limited global roaming to prepaid. So I stopped changing between pre and post while overseas, and just went with larger then normal prepaid caps while away. Now I have $140 in prepaid vouchers that I can't use because the plans I had expected to use them for no longer exist, Vodafone won't help and if I use the vouchers for anything, I get taken off my cap plan and can't go back to it.

I refuse to get locked into a contract with any carrier.

I had been looking at changing to Optus because of the cough Vodafone keeps pulling and I could get a discount through work and earn QF points. Then the QF points stopped and work changed back to Telstra, so I didn't change.

Vodafone will always win with the city slickers . I am with Telstra and hate them with a passion, but they are the only ones who can give me coverage

Look at the small print on the $5 per day roaming. Don't expect it to be around long term.

It is a much better offering than Optus or Telstra but note that it is actually $5.50 per day due to the GST. I have read the small print and have never found mention of the roaming charge being subject to GST. When I first used it and worked out what they were doing I was nearly going to take them to task over it.
