There are some pretty good specials to Europe on at the moment flying Qatar.

I am aware at Doha there are separate elite lounges from those for First/Business PAX.

In flight how do Qatar treat *O elites?

- Seat selection
- Priority Boarding
- Anything else a *O elite may expect

Are there any members out there with relevant experience?

Flown QR J last minute after AY bumped me due to flight cancellations so I had QR VIE-DOH-HKG.

So no advance seat selection but got my preferred window. Nothing special on-board.
As you mention it is the premium cabin that counts in DOH rather than the status.

Overall though was pretty impressed with the onboard service and food on the 787.

QR don't do notional seating like QF/BA do.

Priority boarding as normal as you would expect within oneworld.

Elites don't otherwise get anything special beyond what are published benefits.

Our six flights to date, all in 'J', have been uniformly excellent and, aside from the standard OW greeting, hard to see what else they might offer.
Don't know about 'Y', but then again I'm in no hurry to find out.

In Y I've been treated well by staff. Usually a hello, and they remember my name.
They usually soft block a seat next to an OWE. Sometimes extended to OWS as well.

Lounges in Doha for Y passengers are very sad.

Recently flew QR in Y for the first time MEL-DOH-CDG as QF SG.

Pre-flight: Could select seats in the front of Y on the 777 and upper-deck Y on the 380 - I believe these are blocked to non-status. Soft-block didn't appear to work (although the QR Board on FT said this was a distinct benefit).

Check-In: Used the Business Class check-in (standard OW benefit). No priority security at MEL but given a priority pass for DOH which came in handy. The Business Lounge at DOH is a cramped joke (although showers were available if only I'd had more time).

General:

Food: Actually the tastiest Y food I've had in a while (although not particularly appertising to look at) and they don't tend to overload the tray in the way EK does.
Boarding: Make sure you use the early boarding benefit ... there appears to be no policing of carry-on allowances and the bins were overflowing.

BD

Done a few J trips on QR now as QF WP.

Seat selection as per normal for status; occasional OW Emerald greeting by CSM; priority boarding queue, don't know how well enforced and separate air bridge, depending on aircraft. Overall, down-the-line for published benefits.

J cabin excellent experiences!

No idea what happens in Y, but in J and F QR is exceptionally good as a standard (and I've been on a lot of them), so there is no need to be treated any differently, everyone is treated very well. The CSM personally greets everyone as does your dedicated FA and they all say goodbye and thank everyone passenger indivually and it's very genuine. Cut above anything else service wise.

If you're on QR you'll get into their lounges and the Flounge, IMHO, is the best in the world (but you have to be on their aircraft in their F) so I can't imagine what more they could offer than just being great.

Seat selection has never been an issue for me, always got what I wanted, but that may be luck

I've booked QR through the QR website and been able to seat select. You can put your QF number in to have it show up in your QF app.
I flew J 777 out of Perth then A320 new hard product J and same return except swapped out to Y (swapped with dad but he didn't accept the 777 swap)

QF lounge in Perth
Priority boarding but I had booked dad separately so stayed in line with him then they had people checking tickets and once they saw J class they hauled both me and dad to the front - still a queue to get to the actual plane from the stairs!

No additional welcome but agree with what's been said before - you don't need it.

Doha - I went with dad to the OWE lounge but also snuck into the Al Mourjan lounge to look. A lot of the food in the OWE lounge is the same but maybe less variety and the Thai salad was in a single bowl for you to dish up instead of separate small bowls to take so was interested to note the food especially mains seemed to be the same/similar. Less alcohol selection. There are some sort of couches with high walls you can nap on in the OWE lounge. I don't mind it personally. I didn't duck into the OWS lounge. I had bought shoes in Europe and had blisters and one of the staff went to see if they had band aids which they didn't but did point me in the right direction.

Priority boarding the A320 J boarded last which actually makes sense, went on own little bus.

Y experience in the A320 actually good food, drinks runs, snacks on 5hrs or so. I had swapped into dad's seat so no special hello.

777 back same thing from Doha.

Doha airport itself is just EASY and that's what I love about it.

Booked in May for Syd-Doh-Zrh A380 and 787 personal trip and trying Y over and J back. As OW ruby and above you get access to the upper deck economy on the A380. 2-4-2 layout. There is only 1 good clip I found on you tube of this area and upper deck looks uncrowded and wonderful. There's a bit of a gap as well between front rows and last couple back rows if you need that leg room. I'm actually going for the back row as I love my windows but hoping it's a bit empty on my flight so I can move around. Apparently they're pretty strict on OWR and above only (maybe unless flight jam packed) and anyone else on the same PNR without status can also sit with you up there. Not sure about separate PNR's I guess you'd have to ask. The only complaints about upper deck I've seen is being last off the plane either through J class or down stairs and end up at back of Y so - watch your connections!

Otherwise I know my friend with QF gold was upgraded (operational) on the A350 out of ADL so obviously counts for something.

Didn't need to chase flights for posting to QF.

Pretty sure I'll end up flying them again later this year.

I think you should take QR for a spin:). Sales are brilliant.

Just done PER-DOH-LHR & return in Y on a heavily discounted ticket. Still OWE at the moment but not sure if that's going to last much longer.

Treatment different on each leg
PER-DOH (777) - welcome and also asked meal preference in advance
DOH-LHR (A350) - nothing (but quite impressed with the plane)
LHR-DOH (A380) - was able to preselect upper deck which was half empty. Vacant seat adjacent. Very comfortable for Y
DOH-PER (777) - upgrade to J at the gate - excellent throughout & great sleep

An addendum to my post #6:

OW elites flying QR Y out of CDG are *not* allowed into the new QR Lounge but instead are provided an invitation to the iCare Lounge one level (and many more standards) below on level 10 at T1.
This place makes the Business Lounge at DOH seem palatial.

Have done quite a few flights with QR to and from US originating in Perth. We don't have the A380 on this service and have always travelled in Y on this journey! Not young anymore but haven't had a problem with seat or overall experience. Did a J trip a few years ago with QR and it was magnificent! Food in Y now is perhaps not as appetising as it was a year ago but crew are always pleasant and welcoming. Flights are generally on time. Perth - Doha sector is generally busy so not a lot of seating options but were pleasantly surprised on last Doha - JFK sector (mid December) to find plane not full and we each scored 3 seats! A real bonus on this very long sector! Prices are always very competitive. Doha airport is great and easy to find your way around. Had an unavoidable 9 hour layover in Doha recently after arriving from Chicago but enjoyed a nice sleep in a Doha hotel and transfers to and from airport courtesy of QR. Really good dependable service.

Same goes for LHR - at least they're consistent!

Recently flew Qatar business class from Munich through Doha to New York. Service was first class, food, wines very good. Doha business lounge was exceptional in terms of size, layout, facilities, dining, service. Has capacity for 1000 people and by the size could well handle capacity. Has a 'quiet room' (like a bedroom) where you can sleep, be woken in time for your flight, shower etc. We had a 7 or 8 hour lay over which was well spent dining, sleeping, showering etc. Only down side with the Qatar flight is the entertainment system in terms of music is some what limited in comparison to Qantas

How is it in comparison to the BA lounge at CDG? Or would it be too much hassle to use the lounge in T2?

I don't think it's possible to transfer airside at CDG between T1 and T2.

These lounge games of Qatar's are getting old. Stop thumbing your nose at oneworld policy.

I have heard of this rumoured quiet area but in all my visits, other than the relaxing chairs near the luggage store, I've never come across it.

QR may have their own way of running things but I know that prior to flying with them. They still provide a lounge when I'm flying Y and I'm fine with that lounge. It's not as nice as the true business class lounge but it's still nicer than hanging out in the main terminal especially on a long layover. For that I am grateful. Pretty sure there's another airline touting similar rules - might be Swiss? *A Something european.
