What next ? Charging for Emerald City :?: :p

re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - Domestic Exit & International 80A/K,71D etc

Qantas argues that re-assigning those seats into the 'extra legroom' category will mean a fairer deal for most passengers.

There's that word again!!

Why is it a fairer deal? Good luck to anyone who was able to snag them, I say.
80A/80K were my favourite seats.

re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - Domestic Exit & International 80A/K,71D etc

I understand that Qantas wants to maximise cash from these seats, but have they taken into account the loss of revenue from pissed-off frequent flyers who actually knew about these seats??

It does seem a rather petty, penny pinching move. Looks as though these seats will remain complimentary to P1.
Probably similar to the outcry in 2009 when the charges for Exit Rows on international was introduced.

Is it just me or does anyone else think it's only a matter of time before we see the HLO fares etc etc ?

re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - Domestic Exit & International 80A/K,71D etc

Like others have said. Seems perfectly reasonable to maximise revenue. No issue with that. Just be open and honest about it rather than some marketing rubbish about being fairer. People are more likely to respect the decision if the reasons are honest and transparent.

I'm sure Murphy's Law will dictate that the NB pax will book early & shell out the extra bucks to secure 80A/K etc so even if those prized seats are complimentary for WP1's, chances are they're more likely going to book closer to their date of travel particularly if a last minute business trip so the seats won't even be there for the taking.

Tony Hancock won't be impressed.

Good point OBB, they'll have to give him an op-up instead :p

Qantas Domestic charging for exit row seats now?!

Um, what the f#?$. East/west flights (of which I do around 36 per year)
How did everyone miss this? Or have I just missed this?? Not even an exemption for platinums!?

The exit row and ability to get the exit row for me, means I keep working over west. Without it, i'm not sure I can. - I'm a tall bloke and not small either, also I have an old army injury that means having cooped up legs below another seat is quite painful. I haven't flown in non-exit for about two years I guess.

Also, redroo, your website lies! the Buy Exit Row Seats page on qantas
says its only on east/west flights - I do per/phe and that is also trying to get me with $60. On a full fare as well.

This is beyond a joke, its acceptable with a cut price airline to charge for extras, but not a full price fare airline. Got any comments red roo? Might ask work to switch flights to virgin. Just a shame with that platinum qantas status - seems to mean less and less each time I fly.

Yeah, right?

Its hidden in the ausbt thing on the a380s and selling 3 extra seats on this plane.

Qantas to sell more 'extra legroom' economy seats on Airbus A380 - Australian Business Traveller
"Qantas is also introducing the extra legroom category onto its transcontinental Airbus A330 flights, with passengers able to book four spacey seats in advance of their flight for an extra $60 or 7,500 Qantas Points."

Seems the story is actually this, not the a380 b/s. Me thinks solidly that AUSBT are sock puppets of Qantas. Ie.. directed/paid to not annouce it as a story. Wouldnt put it past the sneaky b$%^&*(@#, given how many free flights they get out of qantas.

Given this move is only going to bring in a few million dollars a year (<$10 million if confined to east west flights, likely around $6 million or 2 mil per PER/east route) , it seems like a bit of a joke move and will piss off enough frequent flyers to likely affect their bottom line.

At this stage, I am considering drilling down my hefty points balance with qantas in an anticipation of moving away from the airline.

Whats your point? I used to pay and it was only 20 or 30 bucks east/west. they also werent a full service airline back then. I havent flown them since, so I'm not sure you can call them a full service airline. But their fares are quite a bit cheaper than red roos....

I guess at the end of the day, Qantas needs to try build income in whatever way they can. The recent slash and burn tactics seemed to work somewhat, I am receiving better treatment onboard than ever before, meals are better than ever and frankly, I'm really enjoying QF. If charging to sit in a "premium" seat is an issue, vote with your feet.

Wow... Is this acceptable? I would be mighty pissed off if I was Qantas or Ausbt reading this. You have proof this is the case? I would expect that there would be a closer relationship with a business site than a blogger site, but really, the accusations?

Re: Qantas Domestic charging for exit row seats now?!

This is on the QF website now. If flying on a Flexi Fare, 7500 points for a Y exit row or 10000 points for a J upgrade. Pretty simple answer now....
