Retro Roo II

Nice, quite coincidentally I was going through some of my parents' old slides from the 70's and came across these two snaps:

Jumbo 2.jpg

Was in the SYD J lounge the other day when the Retro Roo arrived at a Gate. At least a dozen people got up to see, some took photos etc. Definitely creates a buzz!

Congrats can't wait to see which livery is chosen.

Shame it couldn't be on one of the 744s!

From the press release:

“You can see from what’s posted on social media that people enjoy taking photos of Retro Roo I as it travels to airports around Australia. Crew tell us it’s always a talking point when it pulls up to the gate and people get on board, though they’re generally pleased that it’s not 1974 on in the inside as well.

Really?? I would have thought 1974 would have had fewer passengers, generous seat padding, generous legroom, full hot meals even on short flights. The only thing missing would have been IFE.

Fantastic news on another Retro Roo livery.

Although I was thinking we still quite a few 73Hs in the old style 'retro' Red Roo livery (from 1984). Surely this wouldn't be it right?

IIRC, hot meals were not served until after 1974 - maybe well after. I recall travelling what was then F PER-SYD in 1971 and the meal was club sandwiches.

There was a bit of fanfare when hot meals appeared.

Maybe Red Roo in their spare time ;) could dig out some of these timelines.

While the following brochure is undated (except for the introduction which refers to November 1964, but that could be historical), it was obviously published before the introduction of the 727-200 in 1972 (it only references the 727-100 and DC-9). From the brochure you can see hot meals were being offered: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8YFgp4nnatYWmJzdlo2eUZfZVk/edit

As much as I love Retro liveries, I really do and appreciate airlines paying homage to their heritage, I do wonder if RRII will receive as much a fond following as RRI?
The RRI livery, besides the current, and first wingless Roo is what most people would remember from childhood etc. The previous liveries, say the 707 one, how many people would remember them associate it with QF or have related memories with it?
Anyway I cannot wait for it, I still have yet to see RRI.
