Seemingly comped Silver status

I was a bit shocked when I logged into my QFF account today to see that I was Qantas Club Silver.

It seems Qantas has comped me Silver status, even though I’m 50SC short. However I have 50SC worth of forward bookings in October and November, followed by 360SC worth in December.


Current Status: Silver
Status reassessment will occur: 29 Feb 2012
Qantas Club will expire: 31 May 2012
Status credits earned from 01 Mar 2010: 300
Additional Status credits required by 28 Feb 2011 to attain Gold: 400

If they were going to comp me status based on forward bookings, surely they’d give me Gold, not just Silver, so I’m a bit perplexed at this. I’ve had 300SC’s for this membership year for a month too, so it’s not like I suddenly hit that number, and I was Bronze before.

I have a feeling it’s probably to do with NGCI and maybe they saw that I was going to get there, so to include me in the next rollout they comped me. That being said, no email yet, and as I’ve only just noticed, not sure when I’ll get my card.

Has anyone heard of this happening?

My boy has got 250 SCs in his account, and it says that he needs 50 more SCs for Silver qualification. He is currently a NB.

That’s odd… maybe they’re changing the program, or it’s just some massive site wide glitch and when they work it out I’ll lose my status till November.

i just looked at my wife's account (who is waiting for some missing flights to be manually added, which should get her close to silver anyway) and she has a similar thing

Showing 215sc's with only 85 more to qualify for silver...

i hope this isnt a mistake haha

Hmmm... How very strange. I just checked my Account Summary (I'm currently PS) and it says that I've earned 80 SC and need another 170 SC to retain Silver (I thought it should have been another 220 SC). It also states that I have another 620 SC to attain Gold.

Perhaps the rules have changed for attaining and retaining Silver? Or, like you suggested, a system-wide glitch...

Like you no doubt, I was more focused on selecting seats for upcoming flights than sharing the news

Well you have your seats if it is… but likewise, although I’ll hit it anyway, I’d rather keep my status then lose it for the next 2 months

Seems like something is in the air. How funny is it that several of us have discovered this on the same day? Or some ppl might have kept this to themselves for a little while

My dads account has 180SC to attain Silver, he has 120SC.

My mums account has 275SC to attain Silver, she has 25SC.

My sisters account has 140SC to attain Silver, she has 160SC.

Looking increasingly like a glitch, other than I have 300SC and have been comped Silver, with 400SC required to attain Gold, which is the right amount from 300.

Yes, I'd say you're right, it's a glitch. When I've been comped Silver, they normally clear out the field that contains how many SC are required to retain Silver, or don't show the line at all.

Must have just happened today as when I checked the kids accounts last night they needed 350 SC for silver and they only need 300 SC today.

I'm pretty sure they didn't sneak out overnight and fly somewhere.

Just got my brother to check his online statement.

He is currently silver and only needs 250SCs to retain silver. Odd. :!:

But you're on 340SC and aren't showing as Silver? Or are you? If you're not it seems targeted. As surely you'd be included in a glitch.

I can't even get into my QFF account at the moment, it keeps giving me the generic error message. Its only just started doing it

Oh, and just to add; about a week and a half ago I had a look at my father's account and he had been "comped" Silver renewal (while on 270 SC), he took a trip 2 days later and achieved the renewal in his own right anyway. He's still some way away from his anniversary so could have been the 'glitch' affecting him earlier.

It looks like for the 2nd year in a row, with the planned travel he has, that he'll just miss out on SG again. He won't do a SC run though as access to lounges doesn't really bother him.

Do they comp QC too?

I am a Qantas Club Silver, of which my QC expired last week, I still have Silver status til May next year.
In my frequent flyer section it still says Qantas Club Silver, does that mean I still have it?

I just totally forgot to renew my QC, as I expected they would have sent me some sort of communication to say my QC was expiring soon?

Well, for my 2c worth - my partner discovered that his Gold status (due to expire end of this month) had been renewed undtil October 2011 - and he was more than just 50 SC short: mind you, I quaoify for PG in December which MIGHT explain it.

Seems like some strange things are happening in Qantas Land.
