Proof of the so Called Queensland Daylight Savings Issues
Many people on WP and elsewhere have asked me to explain how the so called silly comments about daylight saving can be true – so here goes.
1. Fading Curtains
Many rural (and urban) families tend to close the curtains when they get home from work to keep out the hot sun, then open them again after the sun goes down to let more air in. Given day light savings gives you one additional hour in the evening after work, this increases the fading of curtains.
This may not actually be the case.
Bull****! You have not created any more daylight. If you were a smart QLDer, a rare breed, you would close the curtains when you went to work and open them after the sun went down.. No extra hours or faded curtains! Dumbass!
2. Cows giving less milk
Cows don't read clocks, so when they give their milk at 4am, each and every morning ready for the trucks to pick up by 4:30am to get into town for us to drink. When daylight savings starts the cow's 4am is now 3am and the cow gives less milk. That is – the reason cows produce less milk in DLS is because
they don't know about the change. This may not actually be the case.
Bull****! Cows do not have watches. They are governed by the sun coming up and the sun going down. This argument only holds water if we give cows watches and teach them to read time.
3. Killing children (The important one).
The kids get out of school at around 3:10pm to (in many cases) walk home. This is fine as the core UV times are 10am to 2pm. Of course in daylight savings they are heading out in the peak UV period (which is now 11 am to 3pm) causing more UV issues. Hats, creams etc help a little – but with 16 or 17 UV ratings the only real protection is to get inside. Sadly, they get run over by cars due to poor light conditions later on in the afternoon.
This may not actually be the case.
Bull****! We already know that forcing kids to wear sunscreen and hats is making them Vitamin D deprived. Teach the dumbass parents that too much sun for little johnk/sarah is a bad thing will fix this..
In summary, Day Light savings is not designed for tropical regions like Far North Queensland. That is why they don't have it. Polls have repeatedly shown that the majority of Queenslanders outside the south-east corner do not want daylight saving.
Bull****! The average Queenslander is not smart enough to be bale to figure out daylight savings. Maaaate nobody is going to take away an hour of my drinking time! Maate I will not get up an hour earlier and work an hour longer...
In the south-east of Qld, the same polls show that the majority do want it, and the geography of the area means that it would work. However, the problems of how to integrate two time zones in the one state have so far proven impossible to manage. In other parts of the country, such as the 80% of people who live south of the Queensland border, it is entirely practical.
- Why would you want to have the sun come up at 4am and only start doing stuff at 8am and then have the sun go down at 5pm just when you get home from work? Stupid is as stupid does... and no your dumbass will not die if you wind your clock back one hour...
