That makes sense then. I suppose I was just surprised that QF would forego the opportunity to upsell PE seats for revenue to regular Y passengers (like VA Economy X for example). The effort required to add that as a feature probably wouldn’t be justified given how few flights it would apply to...

Are you booked in economy or PE? I'd assume PE seats would only be available to people booked on PE fare (assuming they are selling that on a domestic route?), otherwise only accessible via the usual upgrade process.

It may be worth contacting the reward ticketing escalation email specifically, given it was a reward booking. They seem to be getting better recently at getting things fixed fast.

Alternatively MEL-KIX, given the popularity of Japan at the moment. Wouldn’t have thought there’d be too many people flocking to Hawaii as a budget destination with the exchange rate the way it is, even with JQ low fares.

I made a CR booking with AY and CI flights on the itinerary recently. I was able to select seats for the CI flights through the QF manage booking page in the Qantas seat selection interface.
