First rewards booking on EK coming up as “Premium Economy”

I don’t think this question has been asked before but if it has, please feel free to move this. I just booked Qantas classic award seats on EK flights, SYD-DXB in First and then DXB-MCO in Business.

Receiving the e-ticket receipt, the first sector shows as “First” but then says “Premium Economy classic” underneath. On Emirates Website, it has nicely assigned 1A to me so it seems to all be in order and probably just some glitch. But I’m a bit nervous that I suddenly get pushed into Economy once checking in at the airport

Any ideas what has gone wrong here, should I better do the dreaded hold line with Qantas to be 100% certain?

I’d say it’s just a mismatch between the QF and EK fare codes.

Are they listed anywhere?

Saw the exact same thing on a ticket for EK404.

They were either super lovely and let me sit in 1A on that flight out of the goodness of their hearts or - as suggested above - quite possibly a coding mismatch between QF and EK.

According to a list I found here using google Emirates First Awards use Z as the fare code - which is the same as QF use for Premium Economy awards.

Ah- that explains it, silly Qantas. Definitely shows up as First on EK and they’ve also deducted the full amounts of points. So shower suite, here I come!

The cabin showed up as First on the Qantas receipt you posted above. It was just the fare type that was wrong.

American also code their Premium Economy as P, so if you book an AA PE seat on a Qantas-issued ticket it shows as First in the app. Doesn't translate to the onboard product unfortunately

Understood. As long as there won’t be any issues later but it looks like it will be fine.

So the two airlines use different fare codes for some classes and Qantas does not take this into account when issuing these ticket documents.

I don't think they've quite taught the work experience kids in the IT department how to use switch cases based on the carrier being used.

I also recently had an AA Economy CR seat show as PE on the Qantas ticket.

Thought it might have been my lucky day until the AA website confirmed it was not.

Fair shout - but by the same token, if anyone at Mascot actually paid attention to a lot of what was said on here, we'd probably all have smoother experiences with Sydney Airways.
