    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

No ulterior motive in picking 55 - that's the age that a number of funds will down rate the investment option for people who have not directed otherwise. So, the points you make are even more reason why the degree of growth assets in the mix should NOT be decreased.

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

The comments about ‘conservative’ asset allocation when moving to the pension phase can lead to unfortunate outcomes. The median person approaching retirement age, say now aged 60, should have a life expectancy of 25 to 33 years. Yet too many ticket clippers aka advisors/consultants/super...

    Flybuys Targeted Bonus Promotions

Careless of you! We had a similar issue a while back but flew out on Monday afternoon (so did the 2x $50 shops for Wk 2 then) and, (as luck and reward seat Gods would have it) arrived back on the Sunday morning for the end of Wk 3. Worst case - do you have a relative/friend you can owe a...

    UpgradeMe pricing and success

Or... Cancelling Australian domestic flights due to 'mechanical problems' which just happen to see the prior +/or subsequent flights to the same destination reach near 100% full. An easyjet pilot, staying in the same Gatwick Motel (Premier Inn very presentable...), was very talkative and...

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

On to the 6th generation of some families who have never worked, so go from unemployment benefits and State housing to pension and State housing. Serious unintended consequences.

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

Putting on hazmat suit. No matter what the well thought out Govt initiative is supposed to do/achieve - a few creative thinkers will come up with a way to plunder it. Keating bringing in Dividend Imputation was designed to remove the double taxation of dividends. Then some smart people came...

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

Given the alternative putting the money into bank run funds et al… At least the after tax return from Industry funds leave the bank (or Insurance company) funds for dead. Have a look at BT’s 5, 10, 15 or 20 yr performance for example. Marketing has much to apologise for.

I’ve often used an Australian (3.3% FX fee) CC for the ‘security deposit’ hold and it has never shown up on a statement. No FX fees ever, even for 45 day US rental.

Fraud on Velocity Frequent Flyer accounts

I wonder what the common factor(s) is/are here? Some action has led to a relatively small number of accounts to be hacked. Why these ones? Quite a while ago a relatively small clearer (tiny in even the US scheme of things) got hacked. They cleared CC transactions, as it happened, across 19...

Received one year fee waiver email two days ago. So our original plan of keeping original account with many supps and cancelling two single card accounts is looking better and better. At least for the next 12 months.

Please reread what I wrote. Did I type that the credit agencies have all that information? No, you made an incorrect assumption about what I put. I asked, providing a complete picture of two people, who would have the higher credit score. Btw it’s the person with the lower income and much...

OR perhaps they do not want to reveal the (or one of several) flaws with their current procedures and tip off other potential hackers.

The different agencies all have a different ‘recipe’ using nearly identical ingredients (funny that). The credit score is not for your benefit in the slightest (no surprise there) - but for the lender or vendor to see how likely they’ll make money (on avg) to people with that score +/or make...

Some good news of sort - $8 monthly fee is per account not per card - so with 4 supplementary cards fee remains $8. Now 2 separate accounts are getting shut.

I'm not sure the 'contracts' have changed much in the last 40 years - I recently thinned my collection of old T&C booklets (sniff, sniff) after doing one last cpmparison with the latest versions for several cards. All had the clause along the lines of 'provide advance notice in writing at least...

    New Amex statement credits

I've noticed that some of the aggregators now only offer zero $0 CDW with no ability to opt out (for the US mainly but a couple of European bookings also had that). The old zero excess international car hire free insurance that some cards used to provide is sorely missed. I've hired cars...

    New Amex statement credits

For some the straight Amex Platinum CC @ $1,495 may be (have been) worthwhile but for us the 'lesser' Amex Platunum's such as Velocity etc at sub $400 annual fees plus travel credits or free flights that sometimes have a cash cost as much as or more than the annual fees - were the clear choice...
