Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

Card bonuses and earn rates will probably stay the same (or could even go down if interchange fees are reduced again). But we could see many more companies partner with Qantas to provide customers with points.

Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

Remember, Qantas is doing this because it wants to 4x loyalty program profits, which means selling massively more points. It may be much easier to build large points balances in the coming years, making classic plus a better value proposition than it is now.

Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

Are you saying any seat will be available to book as CR+? Because that’s not what Qantas is saying. Eg Hudson today: CR+ “will add four times the amount of access to seats than Classic Rewards” - a reference to the 20 million v 5 million CR I assume. So CR+ numbers are limited.

Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

So availability of CR+ will be “widespread” but not unlimited. 20 million seats this year. Will be interesting to see how long availability lasts on popular routes!

PE and F also 1.5 cents per point

"... we'll shortly announce a major investment to improve our Frequent Flyer program"

I figured p+p would be for people who don’t have enough points for a CR+ seat, but want to use points to reduce the cost of their fare.

"... we'll shortly announce a major investment to improve our Frequent Flyer program"

I don’t understand what this means: “Classic Plus reward seats will generally be made available 353 days in advance … That’ll be your first and best chance to snap these up“. So there will be a limited number of seats? ie. You can’t just wait until the cash fare is on sale and then book at...

"... we'll shortly announce a major investment to improve our Frequent Flyer program"

Getting consumer protection regulations enacted in America is hard and will continue to be. That’s not the case in Australia, so expect to see a further reduction in interchange fees in the years ahead - esp given the huge increase in card payments since the last RBA interchange fee review...

A complete website rebuild was announced during a recent earnings release, if memory serves!

A couple can earn 80k points per year just from wine bonuses. Trust me!

"... we'll shortly announce a major investment to improve our Frequent Flyer program"

The reason I think it will become easier to amass 1 million points is that Qantas Loyalty is aiming to *quadruple* profits by the end of the decade. That means selling *a lot* more points to partners (irrespective of any increase in price).

"... we'll shortly announce a major investment to improve our Frequent Flyer program"

Most people only want to travel long haul every few years. Earning 1m points in that time is attainable for a couple, without massive card churn. Qantas want to sell a lot more points to partners in the coming years. That means more opportunities for consumers to earn points. Honestly, I...

The SC earn rate for Points Club members will also be a key factor. I’m hoping it will be either full SC or at least substantially higher than for classic reward seats

"... we'll shortly announce a major investment to improve our Frequent Flyer program"

There’s much we don’t know: Will you be able to book any economy seat at 1 cent per point or will availability be limited? Same for premium cabins - and what will the cent per point rate be (we know it will be higher than economy)? Will any non-QF metal be included? How will SCs be earned? …

I think the leaks suggest it is pretty much locked in. They are just finalising the tech probably.

"... we'll shortly announce a major investment to improve our Frequent Flyer program"

It’s kinda amazing than Qantas thinks it can sell so many more points, given they are already ubiquitous. Aiming for another quasi monopoly, perhaps!
