    QF8 Cancelled - Friday 12th

Qantas had planned A380 flights for LAX this week, but the aircraft aren't available as expected. So, these have been replaced with B787s, which then have to be pulled from other routes. Wasn't aware of the Austin diversion either, which certainly makes things messier!

Who else has to regularly chase up Qantas for points & status credits owed....

I flew AA a couple of months back and points + status credits were in my QFF account the next day (about 24hrs after the flight). Perhaps don't panic yet!

Credit Card Offers Amex Explorer: 50,000 bonus Amex points

If your only goal is to transfer to KrisFlyer, all the variants of MR use a 2:1 conversion rate, so it won't make any difference. You only get the option to convert to Qantas with Ascent Premium, which is only an option with the Plat Charge (the $1450/yr card).

    New Amex statement credits

Usually the points offers only show up on MR cards. Can't recall ever seeing one on the QF or VA cards.

Who's on the A380 Syd to LA in the next few days ?

I received 'that call' from the VIP team re: QF11 for travel on 11/8. I was booked in F (in 1A, no less - scored the unicorn of all unicorn F award seats 😢), and advised the aircraft would swap from the A380 to the B787 well before it went public in the booking system. They had enormous power...

I know it's annoying, but could you go back on a different day / when somebody else is working etc? Not sure how many cards you were hoping to get...

    Gold/Platinum status devalued

I saw a post recently from a VA Platinum member saying the Perth lounge doesn't bother opening for the red eye flights to the east coast, because there's such a gap in flight schedules from about 6:30pm until the red eye. So Qantas actually opening their lounge an hour before each flight sounds...

    Diners Club foreign exchange rates.

Another data point - I had a USD $283.60 charge on the Diners on 30/7, which still shows as pending at AUD $403.82. However, when it settled on 4/8, it had finalised at AUD $415.20. (Yes, annoyingly, companion Diners transactions continue to show as pending sometimes for a week after the...

Amex Business Cards as a Sole Trader

Hmm, last time I looked into the AMEX business cards, the ABN had to be registered for GST. Is that no longer the case (or are you just registered for GST but dormant)?

    New Amex statement credits

Just successfully used my VC offers. I'd planned to spread them over a couple of different stores to avoid any issues, but the shop attendant at the first store was curious to learn how to do them properly and seemed thrilled that I was buying a few which gave them more practice to memorise the...

    RewardPay Alternatives

One thing I do like about Pay Rewards is that transfers to SQ appear instantly, if you're transferring solely to redeem straight away. Some transfer partners take forever and you're left sweating whether your preferred award seat will still be there by the time the points arrive. (I'm looking at...

Many of the airlines listed on the reward search have also been broken for an extended period.

Migrating from Qantas Ultimate to Platinum?

Difficulty with the Platinum card too is that it's a charge card, not a credit card - so a different type of credit product. If you had a different charge card (like the old Green card), you may be able to upgrade directly, but with only a credit card, you'd generally need to apply for the...

Will Virgin's Premium Lounge Entries open back up at some point?

Yes, a different section. There's a small kitchen dividing the Beyond Lounge with the upstairs section of the public lounge.

    Enhancements to VA partner redemptions

My understanding is that Singapore Airlines makes two different levels of availability to partners, and the level they pay for impacts the rewards their members get. There's the level that Velocity used to get many moons ago, when you could barely find a premium seat anywhere (basically, what...

    Enhancements to VA partner redemptions

With SQ the carrier charges would be US$90 for Australia-Singapore in business and $150 for Singapore-Europe based on the distance of the flights. So US$480 return (not 'cheap', but nicer than US$600 - or what is charged on Etihad).

Credit Card Offers Amex Platinum Card Benefits, Offers & Discussion

I don't recall seeing it as a specific benefit, just something that most hotels tend to honour. I've had luck with stays in W Hotels and Shangri-La by making sure my Bonvoy/Golden Circle number was linked, but I read an article on TPG that said hotel points/perks/nights etc may or may not credit...

I could only see Shop Small on one of my primary cards. Nothing on the rest of the primary cards in my household (including those in others' names), or on any of the supps. Means I'll probably forget that it's there and have a few random $5 credits pop up over the next few months, rather than...
