ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

If it's 2.5:1, it'd mean Diners is earning 0.8 SQ miles per $1 spent. Of course, you could convert from Citi to Velocity at 2:1 (1 Velocity Point per $1 on Diners), and then from Velocity to SQ, but given the VA:SQ 1.55:1 rate, you'd end up with only 0.645 SQ miles per $1 spent (so better to...

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I thought the Citi:SQ conversion rate was 2.5:1 for Premier and Prestige (2:1 only for Citi:Velocity)? On the basic Citi Rewards, Citi:SQ is 3:1 and Citi:VA is 2.5:1. Premier and Prestige have better conversion rates, but I don't think SQ is 2:1.

Not to mention that these days, merchant facilities (and even PayPal) report your processing volume to the ATO as business revenue for tax pre-fill.

Are there issues with searching Partner reward seats on VA currently?

Don't forget, you have to call Velocity to book Hawaiian Airlines reward flights - they're not available on the VA site. (It might show you UA via SFO or LAX into SYD, but you'd probably spend more points doing that than booking HA direct.)

Citi removing Skywards as a transfer partner

It could come down to cost. Emirates miles are notably more expensive than other frequent flyer program points, which is why many transfer partners use a less favourable rate to Emirates than to other programs. If the agreement was up for renewal and costs went up (particularly as AED is...

Credit Card Offers Amex Platinum Card Benefits, Offers & Discussion

Sneaky change to the wording of this, saying you have to make "a booking of $450 or more". Under the current system, you have the option of booking something less than $450 and just forfeiting the difference (which isn't a great way to go, but if you have a $449 booking, you'd previously get...

United Airlines new Virgin Australia/Velocity Partner

Perhaps try setting your region on the United site to the USA before selecting a seat (or, if you're on USA, set it to Australia). Didn't have any issues recently on a VA award. Even got my seat selection fee back automatically from United when I had to cancel the Velocity booking!

Are there issues with searching Partner reward seats on VA currently?

They exist, but you're lucky to find one seat a year. (Literally, that's all I could find for BNE-SFO). If you're looking at flights from Australia, you'd probably have better luck finding an Air Canada seat into Vancouver first... but even then, Premium cabin availability isn't great.

Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

Yes, but only within the same product family, e.g. upgrading from Qantas Discovery to Ultimate, Velocity Escape to Platinum and Essential to Plat Edge/Explorer. Charge has to be a separate application as it's a different type of credit product, but it still never hurts to ask over the phone what...

UK will need an ETA for non Brits/non Irish

Announced about a year ago, just not much coverage locally at the time: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/nationality-and-borders-bill-electronic-travel-authorisation-factsheet/nationality-and-borders-bill-electronic-travel-authorisation-factsheet

United Airlines new Virgin Australia/Velocity Partner

I got excited in seeing this comment, but I just searched across the year ahead and found only one date with a reward seat in United Polaris from BNE to SFO. It's available for booking using both Velocity Points and KrisFlyer miles (much better value via Velocity at 95,500 points versus 146,500...

Credit Card Offers Amex Platinum Card Benefits, Offers & Discussion

Just for clarity, two guests are allowed at Centurion and Plaza Premium. The Priority Pass membership only allows for one complimentary guest though (if you go to The House). There's no issue in bringing an additional guest (that is, a second guest - so primary cardholder, plus one free guest...

FLounge 6am to 10pm SYD for under $100?

Worth keeping in mind that you can't just 'walk out' of the international terminal when you've already crossed the border. I've done it it before (not for this purpose, but after flight disruptions that made it better to leave, take a domestic connection and fly out of another city the same...

    RewardPay Alternatives

Yeah, I wouldnt be buying points on OzBargain and putting my entire balance of points at risk, along with my status and lifetime status credits. Happy to pay a moderate amount more and earn them legitimately. Each to their own, though.

    RewardPay Alternatives

I use pay.com.au to earn points by paying off my credit cards, but it only works when you fund the payment by bank transfer and then pay the 'Pay Rewards' fee. The earn on these payments is the same regardless of membership tier, so you can do it with the free membership. However, you might need...

Worst Domestic Qantas Lounges & What Can be Done About It?

PP has no conditioner (just shampoo and shower gel), no face washers (just bath mat and towel), and no other amenities (dental kit etc). Not sure what Qantas has these days in the domestic showers, but I can at least see conditioner in the pic above!

    WP Unsolicited J Upgrades

Since the days of domestic business on VA, I can only recall one op-up - and it was after I'd already boarded a BNE-SYD flight. There'd been an aircraft swap from the B737 to the Embraer, which must have meant an oversell. I was in row 3 (front of economy), and the gate agent came on board with...
