Have you had to change/cancel travel due to COVID-19 (involuntarily or voluntarily)?

Sad my trip to UK in May cancelled. Did $600 on each ticket, but glad to say the remainder of the $$ hit my bank account this arvo. I'll happily re book next year and through the same most excellent TA if that firm is still afloat....

Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Isn't alcohol an antiseptic? Plus lemon is good for colds. So, gin, quinine and lemon...homemade cure? Oh bugger I am out of lemons, and with Mrmac fair square in the red zone with his age, health history & compromised immune system I'm not so desperate as to brave the shops. I do however have...

When is a Demo not a Demo. Cars

Mate of ours ran the used car division for a large Mercedes dealer. Whenever his car was in for a service Mrmac would amble over to the lot and find one he liked the look of, & say let me take that for a few days. Our wiseguy mate used to say - if you want to turn a demo into a used car, lend it...

    Coronavirus (COVID-19) Panic Buying?

I nipped into the local IGA just to pick up milk butter & cheese, this at 9.30. All the usual suspects cleaned out, but as I was walking past the frozen veggies section 2 women were madly filling their trolleys. Another woman, seeing them, started doing the same, then I heard her saying well I...

How not to be spotted as an Anglo in Paris

Watched an American woman on the bus from CDC to Gare du something. She had a scrap of paper with obviously the hotel address. Kept waving it under the bus driver's nose saying take me here, & getting ever louder as the journey continued & he continued to ignore her. I was able to exchange a...

How not to be spotted as an Anglo in Paris

My galpal and I were bemoaning the fact that in Italy every waiter spoke to us in English. It was so frustrating - we'd been learning Italian too. Using it on the the very handsome Italian checking us in to our hotel, we conversed a wee bit then he switched to English - and suddenly said...

    RTW to no-where in particular

I saw this photo in a National Geographic as a child and it always stuck in my menory for some weird reason. Finally got to see it on our 3rd visit (about 55 years since I'd seen the pic and it was every bit as marvellous as I'd hoped.

    Coronavirus (COVID-19) Panic Buying?

I went to Dandenong Market last Saturday. It's pretty close quarters even at 8am.....but hell's bells, someone coughed right behind me and I I started paying attention to just how many people were coughing. Like a TB ward. I skedadelled

Have you had to change/cancel travel due to COVID-19 (involuntarily or voluntarily)?

ahhh well MrMac got into the mix and was concerned the money paid to the TA might disappear (no logical reason for that brain snap) so as she's a friend just got her to cancel the lot.

Have you had to change/cancel travel due to COVID-19 (involuntarily or voluntarily)?

I've just taken a $600 x 2 hit on cancellation. Booked CX to LHR in May with my brother, whose health isn't brilliant. Just as concerned about being in a flying petri dish for 14 hours as I am about the 5 hour layover in HK, being denied entry or getting stuck somewhere in transit. England and...

    2020 Travel Plans

I've bailed on a planned trip to the UK with my bro in May for a big family gathering. His health's not brilliant - so we've pulled the pin, whether prudent or cowardly I can't tell yet, we've each done a lazy $600. The relos will hopefully be able to make it same time next year. As his last...

    Coronavirus (COVID-19) Panic Buying?

One thing I find surprising is that more people don't buy the double or triple rolls. I'd have nowhere to store those giant bales from Costco. Hey I've just had a win. We have just moved house and in this quaint little 'hood we get a white pages (ok just a little local one but hey, if needs...

    Grammar Discussions

Another pet peeve is radio ads (looking at you 3AW) which messes up singular/multiple entity and uses is/are. Something like - Coles 'are' giving away......Coles the organisation is singular, so it should be Coles 'is' giving away....

    Coronavirus (COVID-19) Panic Buying?

I must admit I did a little bulk buying yesterday morning - long life milk, cereal, rice, pasta, grains, canned beans tomatoes., all of which we will use anyway. Got home and MrMac says - how come you bought all this stuff I don't like?
