    Openflights vs MyFlightRadar24

I've just discovered a new problem (or it may be an explanation). My dates are in the near universal dd/mm/yyyy format rather than the illogical US mm/dd/yyyy format and there are no flights in the imported list (of 198 flight out of 509 in AFF) with dates after the 12th of any month.

    Openflights vs MyFlightRadar24

I got a reply from MFR24 - they say to limit imports to 50 at a time. I'll try it shortly.

    Openflights vs MyFlightRadar24

I just tried to import my 509 flights to MFR24 and it only imported 198 of them. I've sent them an email asking if there's a way to improve that success rate but I'm not holding my breath.

    SYD Airport hotels

timjohns: Also factor in the burgeoning strip of hotels along O'Riordan St / Bourke Rd between Domestic and Mascot Station. Many choices. Most are new hotels built in the last 1-3 years. Walking distance from Domestic and $10 cab/Uber ride to International. Stamford Plaza also has great...

    SYD Airport hotels

We're retirees who like to travel a lot so budget is important to us. We catch the 400/420 bus to Mascot and stay at either Adina or one of the Meritons, depending which has the best value offer.

That's a pretty sad outlook on nature.

    Window shades

For a return flight to Europe on Emirates, the seat fees for the six sectors were extortionate and we tried to check in both of us early but had lots of problems. Haven't dared trying the book one seat option due to the risk of them putting someone else next to my wife. We do have a short QF...

    Window shades

As seniors, we fly a lot internationally, despite my wife's claustrophobia. We don't do any overnight flights and rarely fly Business but take stopovers instead (a couple of nights in five star hotels is a lot less expensive than an upgrade to Business). She always gets a window seat and hates...

    Beware of DCC in Europe

I've just activated new 28 degree cards to use for purchases overseas and received a message that signatures would no longer be accepted, only PIN. I phoned and pointed out that, in many countries, they weren't set up for PIN. 28 degrees then said signatures would still be accepted where PINs...

    Beware of DCC in Europe

Some years ago, on a Princess cruise, I nominated to be charged in USD but they did a DCC and charged me in AUD. After I submitted a dispute to my credit card company, the credit card company refunded the difference, saying that they would wear it rather than going back to Princess. On...

What do you look forward to more - the Flight or the Destination?

The destinations first, then flights and airports absolutely nowhere - necessary evils. We're retired and fairly small people so we can't justify flying J or F very often. Although we fly 20 to 30 sectors each year (mostly international), it's with lots of different airlines (30 in the last...

Reduced AMEX earn rates from April 2019

Although it's very difficult, it can be possible to get a new credit card when you're a self-funded retiree. You have to make sure that your pension payments are clearly identified on your personal bank statements and it helps if they're the same each month for six months.

Singapore - to Marina Sands Bay or Not?

We stayed at MBS for one night soon after it opened but we arrived early (from the airport) and left fairly late (to a different hotel). In fact, we arrived at about 6 am and were amazed that we were allowed to access our room that early so we went to the pool for sunrise - amazing. The...

VA cracking down on carry on 7kg limit

Yes but having wheels makes it easier for people to have more weight and wheeled bags inside the cabin are an absolute pain in the neck (or ankle).

VA cracking down on carry on 7kg limit

I'm delighted to see this and, in fact, I'd love to see them go further and ban wheeled luggage in the cabin. It's called "carry-on" not "wheel-on". Hopefully, enforcing the weight limit will reduce the number of wheeled items due to the intrinsic weight before any contents are added. I can...

Transferring VA Velocity Silver lounge passes

My wife and I usually travel together although I do fly a few times without her. Ironically, she has qualified for silver and I haven't. The difference is Fly Buy status points and one flight where I used my Amex credit and she paid. She's got the two lounge accesses on her card. We'll be...

    Help! Can’t get to sleep J & F

I did say "practically anywhere". It could take several steps and lots of planning but first step would be somewhere in the Pacific such as NAN or HNL.

    Help! Can’t get to sleep J & F

Here's a different approach - don't fly overnight. :) We're retired so we're in no rush and we can fly practically anywhere on daytime flights by breaking up the journey and having a couple of nights on the ground between each leg - it helps with jet lag as well.

Musing about cruise loyalty programs vs airline and hotel programs

We just (yesterday) disembarked from our first Diamond level cruise with RCI. There's definitely a big jump in benefits compared to Emerald. However, there already seem to be small erosions of the benefits. The Top Tier event no longer has finger food and you'd have to be quick to get more...
