Simple question from a non-VA flyer.

Last year I became Explore Gold momentarily, but chose not to fly the required status credits. I was downgraded to Silver and my account shows two lounge passes. I have not received my membership pack in the mail yet.

This week my sister and her partner are flying on VA, so I would like them to be able to use the passes, however, when I log into my Velocity account I cannot see a way to transfer the passes to them electronically like with the QF system. Is this possible; how do I do it?

From what I have read online the passes can be accessed from my card as well, luckily I am dropping my sister off at the airport. Can I approach the lounge front desk, swipe my card and use my passes on them, before heading home (I will not be flying)?

Thanks!

The first time I became a VFF PS, I got the pack for the new VGW in silver colour, but it does not include the 2 "the Lounge" invites.
Those are linked to the VFF card.
You don't get a paper certificate, as to what QF have gone into.
Its on your VFF account, and when you approach the front counter, you show them your VFF PS card and tell them you want to use your lounge passes.
Edit: I don't believe that the VFF 2 invites are transfereable, unlike QF where they sometimes just wave you through, for VA, they need to see BP.
Not easy with VA.
Thats how I see it as how the system works, others might have a different opinion/experience.

They are transferable, but only when the Guest is with the member and in conjunction with VA travel:

Member Benefits | Terms and Conditions | Velocity Frequent Flyer

23.3.5 Complimentary Single Entry Lounge Passes are non-transferable and must be used either:

(a) by the Member; or
(b) where the Member is otherwise entitled to access the Virgin Australia Lounge, by a guest accompanying the Member into the Virgin Australia Lounge.

23.3.6 Access to the Virgin Australia Lounge is only permitted on the day of travel on Virgin Australia and is at the discretion of the Virgin Australia Lounge staff and is subject to any capacity restraints that may be imposed.

I actually emailed Virgin the other day because of the same issue. I've just transferred my Velocity points to my cousin and want her to have the passes and they said I have to be there. What I might do is give her my card and see if she can use them

Pretty sure you need to match a boarding pass so won't work.

The rules are pretty clear, and I'd expect the lounge to follow them. Don't get anyone's hopes up.

As a Platinum with 2 AMEX lounge passes that wither on the electronic vine each year, I wish it weren't so. A paper conversion would be nice.

I received 2x passes under similar circumstances as Samh. I am travelling with Mrs and Master Texter (who is 14mths).
Reading Sefty's comments, I can transfer access to Mrs Texter right? I presume that is done on the day/at the desk?
Would I/we be allowed to take our son in too?

Thanks

It's a little confusingly worded IMHO, but they do seem pretty clear on the non-transferable aspect, and if you read 23.3.5 closely "(b) where the Member is otherwise entitled to access the Virgin Australia Lounge, by a guest accompanying the Member into the Virgin Australia Lounge" would indicate to me that unfortunately Mrs Texter would not be able to access the lounge.

What 23.3.5 seems to allow is something like either of these situations:
  • I am travelling with my wife Lady Lenny and my mate Lord Carl, in economy. I am Velocity Gold, Lady Lenny and Lord Carl have no status. I can bring Lady Lenny into the lounge thanks to my Gold membership, and I can then use one of my single entry passes to bring Lord Carl in as well, because I am 'otherwise entitled to access the Virgin Australia Lounge'
  • I am travelling with Lord Carl and for some reason I am booked in Business Class and he is flying economy. We both have no status, but I have 2 single entry passes on my card. I can gain access to the lounge thanks to flying Business, and I can then use one of my single entry passes to bring Lord Carl in as well, because I am 'otherwise entitled to access the Virgin Australia Lounge'
I can't see that the T&C's allow you to use both single access passes that are on your card, for 2 different people, if you don't have any other means of qualifying for lounge access.

Not sure about Master Texter, he's under 2 so you should be fine - VA define child as 2-12 and you're allowed a couple of them as a status pax, not sure how that relates to a single entry pass though as I can't find it in the T&C's

If you are travelling together then you can use the two passes for lounge entry for yourself and your wife.

I had some guest passes courtesy of AMEX Velocity card. No use to me as I'm Plat, but my wife tried using it when she was on her own once (she had my card), and nope you can't transfer them like that. The owner of the passes needs to be present to use them (which if you are Gold/Plat renders them mostly useless unless you have a large group to get in).

Thanks for the replies. Still laughing at Lord Lenny's examples...
I'd guess I will have to try it out (with no expectations) and report back...

I can't see how you can transfer the passes though.

My wife and I usually travel together although I do fly a few times without her. Ironically, she has qualified for silver and I haven't. The difference is Fly Buy status points and one flight where I used my Amex credit and she paid. She's got the two lounge accesses on her card. We'll be travelling to Perth with a 3 hour stopover in Melbourne so I'm really hoping that she can use one for me. The wording of the conditions is unclear so my question is whether anyone has actually managed to use both passes, one for themselves and one for their spouse?

Yes she can use one for you

Just tried today. They let all 3 of us in at MEL. Didn't ask whether that is the policy or they made an exception. We were just happy to be let in..
