Seemingly trivial reasons why you choose one hotel/airline/shop over another

What does Qantas do that Virgin doesn’t, these days? I thought inflight catering, luggage, etc were all on par & had been for quite some time?

Voldemort does flights now? :) If you mean Virgin I thought they’d stopped being “low cost” ages ago & offer the same service/meals/etc as Qantas now? Rex I ain’t got no idea … if Bonza I think we all kinda expected that?

Hotel near State Theatre Sydney (49 Market St)

In that case, I'm told the Italian restaurant which is now occupying the place the Red Oak Beer Cafe used to be, is good. Not been there myself: Palazzo Salato Actually that part of Sydney, a few blocks around it, seems to be the part which has survived the COVID Cull the best. Places like...

Hotel near State Theatre Sydney (49 Market St)

Oh yeah, we stayed there after our wedding in 2009, was a very nice room & pretty pleasant. Only about 1 diagonal block away, under cover of awnings most of the way should it be raining. :)

Hotel near State Theatre Sydney (49 Market St)

I had a quick squizz at Wotif just to see what's around for that money, not knowing when the booking's wanted for I chose next Wednesday. It might also depend on what the dinner plans are, but for example the Rydges on the eastern side of Central was $236 for a king double (and has Sydney...

Hotel near State Theatre Sydney (49 Market St)

How price-sensitive versus fancy-sensitive? I ask because Swissôtel Sydney is directly across the road (easy to miss if you're not looking for it!) and they did a major reno in the last few years so it's quite fancy. But doubt it's near inexpensive, being "5-star" & "luxury". I don't remember...

The Emirates First Experience - What to Expect?

It may have changed since ... 2016 I think it was, but maybe it's not widely advertised & we just turned up, and maybe some airlines use it & others not? We were on QF, so it's not a Star Alliance thing. If I were trying to maximise the F experience I reckon I'd just go there first, expect to...

The Emirates First Experience - What to Expect?

I'm trying to recall Singapore ... for First isn't there almost a "lounge" for checking in there? It's been a while but my vague recollection (we were flying Y on QF but my wife was QF Platinum at the time) was that the F check-in "desks" were in a separate room away from the plebs, and you...

Oh - and don't order the fried rice. Ignore what they tell you about the fried rice being their signature dish ... it's just fried rice, you can get fried rice at your local Chinese restaurant for next-to-nothing. Again ... do NOT order the fried rice.

The Emirates First Experience - What to Expect?

Do they use an A380 for that route? If so ... take a shower in the air! It's something you just won't be able to do otherwise, and it's something that's not likely to be available again once the A380 ages out ...

Article: Should Airlines Rebook Sick Passengers for Free?

That's got to be extra special ... I was pretty clogged-up (yet runny) for my 2018 flight, it may have been a VERY cheap flight for J but I felt really "ripped off" not getting to enjoy it. Yet no probs for boarding with both legs, the guy with the really red eyes & the red nose was allowed...

Article: Should Airlines Rebook Sick Passengers for Free?

COVID has become basically the same as influenza, including illness & the chance of death. People are a lot more aware of COVID ... well der, we all lived through the uncertainty & stress & strangeness of it ... but as it is now, influenza is as much a threat. Yet we didn't particularly worry...

I can’t tell the difference between my permanent state of allergic-reaction & the 2-3 days or so before properly coming down with something. The eye surgeon I’ve been taking my mother to see still has a “mask on” rule, and wearing a mask is a surefire way to get me coughing for a few hours …...

    China Airlines lounge in Brisbane?

… hmm, actually, when I checked the Plaza Premium lounge website it said the lounge would be closed from 1st July. Probably requires a call to China Airlines to find out what’s what, their site might have the info but I can’t find it.

    China Airlines lounge in Brisbane?

QF wasn’t an option for CI at Syd; was the SkyTeam lounge specifically. Looks like Star Alliance & Cathay (among others) also use the Plaza Premium in BNE so it might make sense for CI to offer alternatives …

    Scams like these

If it’s the standard scam, they get you to install one of those bits of remote-access software, and then they log into your PC and do stuff like accessing all your details after checking whether your net-banking username/password is in the browser’s password-list (ie.in order to transfer money...
