How do I check in with only "carry on luggage" - Sydney to Los Angeles?

Provided you've entered your APIS information you can check in online and print your boarding passes for international flights* without needing to see a counter agent. Your passport will be checked against your boarding pass at customs and most likely again at the gate. *I've done this for...

    Westpac tightening the screws

And the next day after saying that, Westpac manage to send their banking system offline for more than 12 hours. No payments in or out, no payroll processing, no account access online or on the phone. Nothing. For 10 hours their response was "we will tell you when it is fixed" and "no we don't...

Passengers requesting to change seats with other passengers

Personally I'd pay the required fee and select your own seats so you're all seated together. I can only remember 3 occasions where I've flown internationally without having selected a seat prior to checkin: 1. As an 11yr old flying with my parents and 9yr old sister, HNL-SYD on Continental...

What the best seat(s) to choose in First class on A380?

I'm sure I've chimed in before on this one but I'll put another vote in for 5K which I always preselect at the time of buying the ticket. I've done 5A (with baby in tow) and found myself being disturbed by the FAs accessing the closet adjacent to that seat. I prefer the back of the cabin as I...

    Involuntary seat change

I assume that this only extends to the CL themselves and not the other pax travelling on their booking? That would explain how I ended up in my (preselected) 1C on a MEL-CBR flight sitting next to then-minister Simon Crean in 1A, who was quite annoyed to find a random stranger as his seat mate...

    Westpac tightening the screws

Yes, I've been finding Westpac's service and offerings on the decline lately. My company has been banking with them for 36 years and all of our personal banking is with them also. In the last few months our 'relationship manager' left and we haven't been given a replacement yet. They've...

    Free QF frequent flyer membership

Just to revive a dead thread - it seems there is another current promotion to join QFF for free. The link that came in the email today is: https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/do/dyns/joinffp?code=REDEMAIL&rmid=18JUN13_FF_FOC_Join I wonder if the IT team that sends out these 'targeted' emails...

    SYD terminal bus transfer

Completely agree with this, especially arriving into SYD on a Sunday on QF12 and wanting the connection down to CBR. There is a 737 service SYD-CBR on Sunday mornings that departs *just* inside the minimum connection time from QF12; as such QF won't let me book but I know if QF12 arrives on...

    Infants In Premium Cabins

I have been allocated both 5A and 5K as bassinet seats when our daughter was younger, but only ever used the bassinet at 5A so can't remember exactly if it was there in 5K also. Have a couple of flights in 5K in a few weeks time, will double check.

    Infants In Premium Cabins

Not sure of J, but the basinets in F are 5A and 5K - they are cutouts in the back wall behind the seat.

At what age did you enroll your child in a frequent flyer programme?

I remember signing my daughter up within a few hours of her birth, when mum & bub were having a nap. She got sick of being a lap-child not long after her 1st birthday so she started earning points and SCs pretty early - she should make LTG before she finishes high school.

Life beyond LTG: Would you stick with Qantas if...

Red Roo - seeing as you're tracking this thread, I have a simple 'Life after LTG' request. Can you get your IT team to adjust the QFF website so that we can still see our lifetime status credits once we reach 14,000? QF might not have any further (published) tiers after LTG but I don't see why...

    Infants In Premium Cabins

Sorry, should have been clearer... the status run was for HER status, not mine...! :)

    Infants In Premium Cabins

In the true spirit of AFF, is it acceptable to take your 2yr old on a JASA status run? :) To answer your question - our daughter has flown internationally to meet family who aren't able to travel themselves, to go on holidays with her cousin who lives in the UK and so I could bring my family...

    Infants In Premium Cabins

Always a polarising topic when it comes up. My take is that if you pay for a seat in F, you're entitled to sit there. This applies no matter how you paid (cash, points, op-up etc) or who you are (infant, toddler, teenager, adult, pensioner). Yes, a crying baby or poorly behaved child can be...

1st visit to SYD QF First lounge

Personally I find that notion quite disgusting. The more appropriate breakfast beverage in the F Lounge is the Veuve. :) The staff don't even bat an eyelet when asked to open a bottle at 5:30am before an early flight to NZ.

    Infants In Premium Cabins

Have been on both sides of the fence - more than happy to see infants / children / anyone else in the premium cabins. My daughter took her first RTW trip in First at 6 months, and has flown J and F internationally a few times since then. Haven't had any problems from her, other pax or FAs on...

Qantas deleted my frequent flyer points without warning!

Thanks. In my particular case it's not an issue as my daughter flies enough to maintain SG, but certainly good advice incase that changes in the future.

Qantas deleted my frequent flyer points without warning!

Thanks - wasn't sure if 'activity' (granting of a lower status) would be enough in that hypothetical case.

Qantas deleted my frequent flyer points without warning!

In my case it's because I intend to let my daughter save up 'her' points over the next 15 years and, assuming the QFF program is still going when she turns 18, she'll have a decent points balance to do some post-school travel at relatively low cost. I am fully aware of the need to keep her...
