    How is Thailand right now?

I’ve been here since last year (though mostly in a rural area) and aside from the masking, sanitising and check-in rituals, life is fairly normal. The nightlife in the tourist areas has died, but if you just want a quiet, relaxing holiday then it should suit - if you can put up with the...

Lots of TG J award availability to/from Sydney

It may not still be the case, but pre-Covid J and F seats would often become available in the week before departure. My last flight (SYD-BKK in March last year) was booked using Lifemiles only 3 days earlier.

Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Or, given the numbers were previously 'skyrocketing', then 'going through the roof' would actually be a sharp fall.

You know you are a former frequent flyer when...

A few years ago, during a DSC promo, I booked 38 trips over a weekend, comprising 100+ flights. Mostly on behalf of FIFO colleagues, though I did squeeze in a few for myself.

Montreux, so Lake Geneva? 1635854968 RF1: Is that a Canadian maple leaf on the sign under the fake palm tree? That would narrow it down.

Does Diners Club still offer personal cards in Australia?

I called last month to get the annual fee waived and happened to enquire about switching from Qantas rewards to Diners. They said that couldn't be done and would require starting a new application from scratch. I didn't take it any further, but it suggests that the plain card is still available.

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

It's not just the cost, it's the hassle and uncertainty. I've no intention of flying anywhere that requires anything more than proof of vaccination. It might be a long wait, but so be it.

What will it cost to fly when the borders open again (domestic or international)

ANA currently have a promotion offering 30% off SYD-Japan fares from Dec1 to Aug 31 2022. So from around $3100 SYD-HND in J. Unfortunately though it's restricted to designated email recipients, but perhaps encouraging nonetheless.
