    Multi city flights to Europe

Edit: Syd posted his reply while I was typing mine but pretty similar advice. We have done this several times with SQ and QR. It was all pretty simple. As a first step have a play around with something like Google Flights, using their multi-city option, and see what sort of fares and which...

    2025 travel plans

We are still hesitating before pulling the trigger but southern France, with a detour to Strasbourg, seems to be likely. We are still working out the details but plan to introduce our grandchildren, 11 & 8 then, to Singapore and Penang - with their mother in tow.

We were at Lake Ballard around Easter in 2018 and while it was very slushy we couldn't see any standing water. I would like to see it when the statues are knee deep in water.

The first thing we did in Esperance after unpacking was to go for a walk out on the Tanker Jetty. This jetty was opened in 2021 and replaced the 'real' tanker jetty that was built 1935 in and demolished in 2019 after being deemed unsafe and unrepairable. To say that there was a controversy about...

The next day we headed off to Esperance - just under 400 km. Just north of Norseman we passed by Lake Cowan - a salt lake measuring about 160,000 hectares when filled. These flowers were scattered all around the approaches to Norseman. They are gazanias a South African flower. I don't...

Rennes does seem to be very well situated for travel around Brittany. As well as seeming to be a very attractive city.

Thanks for taking the time for another reply. The limited details I got in my post just before yours were from the SNCF site. I have used The Man in Seat 61 previously. I would do as you suggested and get to a 'major' centre and fan out from there.

Thanks - you can only tell me what you know. I had a quick look and it seems that there is reasonable service. For example there are numerous Paris to Vannes trips taking from about 3 to 6 hours and with at least one stop. Locally, Nantes to Vannes has 13 daily services on weekdays. I have...

Extremely jealous of what looks to be a fabulous trip. Have you noticed what the public transport is like in these areas? Obviously a car gives you much more freedom but are there smaller rail lines running around there? We are thinking about France next year and this area looks really nice - or...

    China Airlines business class?

We did a Singapore/Taipei/Singapore trip last year. As others have said the food was good and the seat etc very comfortable. Crew were pleasant and service was good. I wasn't all that excited by their Taipei lounge at 06:00 but it was ok. Also not a big drinker so I didn't really take much...

    Last QantasLink 717 service

I assume that it would be very similar to the old DC9's? Or are you a young whippersnapper who never flew on one :)

    The view from my "office"

Incredibly smoky here in Perth at the moment. All doors and windows shut and when you go outside it is really unpleasant. Apparently due to prescribed burns combined with a day that has turned very still. The photo has not been edited.

    Careful around DB (Deutsche Bahn)

Last November/December we were more like 80% delayed/cancelled. But I think some of the major track works north of Nuremberg should have now been completed.

The next day we headed south. Our departure was full of mistakes. When we checked out at the museum office my wife bought me a book for Fathers Day. I cunningly put it down to chat to the lady running the shop and then walked out without it. I remembered it far enough down the road where it...
